It really sad to heard that....may the kit live in peace...

I would like to know, how often does a kit without an opening anal, and is that no other way around to heal it?? Can some experienced breeders give me an answer.

Awesome. I like the beer on tap station next to the cage!!

I also start with 1 female at very first, I adopted she at her age 3.5years old, I started to discover she was quite bore by herself only.
Two mouths later, I got my second female at her age 1/2 year old.
At the begining, it seems they don't like each other. But I got them bond well after 3 months, and they are having a harmony life till now.

Bonding takes times, so you should patient enough. My experience is, female and female can get along great (they are a combination of 3 1/2 years and 1/2 year old at that time).

If you want to keep that boy without getting kits, why don't you choose to desex the boy and form a triad? Or you want to breed them rather than bond them??

haha...I am interested in it, but unfortunately I am not located in the States!!
My place can only get wheels.

General Breeder Chat / Re: Question about homo beige
« on: June 11, 2010, 05:02:33 PM »
Thanks jmdebb, but for the percentage of the outcome of chinchilla coor mutation, I know about that.
What I want to know is - is there any visual evaluation on the chin baby can tell the true with a high confidence??

Q & A / Re: HELP ON HOLDING!??!?!?!
« on: June 11, 2010, 04:51:22 PM »
jmdebb, for me, I also never hold them by the tail even at the butt.
My chins also jump on me by themselves and it's quite easy for me to handle them.
I think there is no objective way to hold a chin, once the way you feel is comfortable and your chins used to be, that's the best way!

General Breeder Chat / Question about homo beige
« on: June 11, 2010, 04:43:29 PM »
I saw a beige color baby from my friend which the color is really light, and the sire is a hetero pink white and the dam is a hetero beige.
According to the color mutation, there should be 25% chance of hetero beige and 12.5% chance of homo beige.
And I have found an article saying that for a homo beige, the eyes should have a ring around the pupil, while the hetero beige should be very solid color.
I have both homo beige and hetero beige, when I examinate their eyes, I can't sure the difference the article is saying.
Anyone have a better way to examinate between homo and hetero when they are still babies?

Q & A / Re: BITING?!
« on: June 09, 2010, 04:17:38 PM »
I have served several chins and I think that mostly they won't bit very hard on their owners.
Moreover, the injury they caused, if by level, I think it only like sometimes very get hurt by an A4 paper in the office.
Sometimes, an elderly hamster cannot recognise their owner at the last few days they are approaching the heaven, the hurt is even more painful than what chin does.
That's what I have experienced, but maybe someone have a different version.

Sounds like the small animal shop owner has it there as a pet? Or is it for sale? Our pet stores here are chains most likely...and well...They would be harder to turn them over with sales...thus the reason I would think they don't have them. $$$ not passing through their hands quickly enough. ;)

It's not for sell, he only own it as his pet.

Q & A / Re: organic orchard grass
« on: June 05, 2010, 02:52:30 PM »
I prefer some famous brand dried grass hay like Oxbow, Kaytee rather than some unknown source of hay.
It's not mean that your said "organic orchard grass" is having problem, but if I am not 100% sure it is safe, I would not offer to my chins!!

Grass hay doesn't cost much but VET bill does, and the life of our chins even cannot count by money, so you should know the choice.

General Chat / Re: Two chins that hate each other
« on: June 05, 2010, 03:34:14 AM »

Well, fast forward, and Chinny ended up passing away
May Chinny live in peace...

A. I just go ahead and acquire 2 more chinchillas from a shelter, making sure they are compatible with the chins I have now.  That way I'm also doing a good deed, because I'm giving some abandoned chins a forever home.

I don't think it is a good choice unless you can bear 4 separate cages for 4 chins in the most worst situation that all of them cannot get along.

B. I separate Bebe and Bella to two separate rooms for an entire year so they don't see or smell each other at all.  Do chinchillas have good memories?  Do you think if I did that they would forget the grudges they have against each other and get along?  I do think they are compatible, based on the fact that they did get along for a period of time before Bebe invaded the other two's house.  And Bella always seemed a little more open to Bebe than Chinny did even though they both clearly hated her.

I don't think this really problem for Bebe and Bella can see each another, moreover, putting the 2 chin cages side by side is one of the first step in bonding of chins, if you are patient enough, it's still possible to get them matched.

C. I give Bebe away to a chin smart home where there is someone that has another chinchilla for her to live with.  This would be the hardest option for me as I love Bebe so much, but I sometimes wonder if this would be the best for Bebe.  And then I would acquire a new chin for Bella.

Bebe is one of your family member, and there is no quarantee for the next chin can be match with Bella, if the next chin is faliure to match, how many cycles you will try??

Are there any other options that anyone can think of?  I'm all ears and open to all ideas.

I really looking forward for your next post is the good news for sucessful bonding. Moreover, if you can pay more time for Bebe and Bella and really love them, even at last the bonding is fail, they can also have a great life just with their owner.

Health / Re: Bambi is doesn't want to eat treats!!
« on: May 31, 2010, 11:38:59 PM »
First of all, how is his feces look like?? Are they just look like normal, or become small, soft or even liquid form??
If the feces carry bad smell, most probably your chin is facing some digestive system problems.

Another important things is that does your chin willing to take grass hay at the moment??

My friend have a experience of over take of unsuitable food. The case is he forgot to close the cage door properly, the chin go out without his attenetion. He also own a cat, and normally his cat cannot finish all the cat pellets, so most probably his chin have taken lots of cat food as he find the cat bowl is empty. After his get back the chin back to cage, his chin refuse to consumpt the regular chin diet and the feces become small and smelly. And at last, his decision is to cut off the chin pellets and only offer timothy hay, luckly, his chin start to eat the hay after a short while and recover soon.

If your chin refuse to take his regular diet, it is very danger and can be fatal even for a short while, as chin need to intake fiber for their digestive moment. I would suggest your chin to have a VET visit if he really refuse to eat anything. Or if you really cannot visit the VET and have no other way around, if I am the chin owner, I will cut off the chin pellets (pellets can be a burden for the digestive system for an ill chin), just offer lots of Timothy hay.

On the other hand, feed with Critical Care or Critter Be Better in order to increase Probiotics in the digestive system and bring the gut mobility back to normal. You can also mix a weak glucose water to him because if your chin is facing soft feces, it is easy to make a chin to "dry out".

What I suggest should be a very mild and safe way to recover you chin, but a VET visit is always best for your chin.

(I am not a English native speaker, so I only try my best to express my suggestion, hope your chin can recover soon)

I was quite surprise that it seems some American chins owner never heard about Royal Persian Chinchilla.
We have one in our city which is owned by a small animal shop owner (I am located in Asia), I have seen the real body of that Royal Persian Chinchilla in a pet show, it really cute.
But still, I like traditional chin more.
