General Breeder Chat / Re: Miscarriage?
« on: November 25, 2009, 12:07:34 AM »
They were put back together on 5/11/09, which made her "due" date 8/29/09. I bought her (and her mate) in early August, and they previous owner said she had just started laying on her side. I weighed her everyday, and triple checked the weight drop. It (the weight drop) was in the middle of August. I only went by the 28th for her due date, by assuming she bred on the 11th. of May. I didn't have her to see it for myself, which puts her "new" the 16th of December. That is right on w/the vet......Hope this helps :)

General Breeder Chat / Miscarriage?

Hi Guys.....I have a riddle for u :)

I purchased 2 Homo Beige girls in July of this year from a small breeder near me. Their B-Day is 5/1/09. 10 days later dad was put back in to be w/mom again. The breeder and I kept in touch, and when she decided to sell mom & dad I bought them. The breeder said she was due any day again, which would have added up w/the dates. I monitored her weight and it stayed the same until about a week later when she dropped 20grams. She put it back on within a week. I thought it might have been from me not feeding as many treats as their previous owner had (they were getting waaaay to much). So fast forward until last week.....still no babies (her belly is hard, but no movement can be felt) so we make a trip to the vet. She is carrying 2 kits, and has a few more weeks to go. They are healthy and fine.

So my question is:

Did she have a miscarriage when she lost the 20grams, and reabsorb the kit?

Breeding 101 / Re: New Baby Boy with some Girls

Is the pic of your 2 girls? Frankie & Heidi?

If so the one on the left looks Violet & the right looks Standard.

That said.....I agree w/Jo Ann......U never wanna breed chins w/out a proper gene history. I'm not saying u can't find a breeder chin from a pet store, some breeders sell them to the pet stores, BUT u don't wanna risk it.

General Breeder Chat / Re: Y is she peeing on him?

Hi Jo Ann.....sorry for the confusion:

I had 2 "males" come into the rescue. 5 min. from the owner bringing them to the rescue the mom had a still born in the car. Upon later email the owner confessed they were a breeding pair (not 2 males) that have had several stillborn litters. So we decided to separate them, because they both has a TOV gene( vet confirmed it). The boy did great but the girl got extremely depressed, so it was then I put in a much younger neutered male. She started eating again, and they really do well other than the peeing thing. Does this give u a better history for advice on the peeing? Thanx

Hi I Had a breeding pair come thru the rescue, and they had several stillborns upon their arrival. We determined they both carried the TOV gene. For their health we split them apart. The male did fine, but the female didn't. I put a neutered male in w/her to perk her up, and it worked. She started eating again. I never c them fight, infact they are always snuggled up together. My question is.....Y does she pee on him? He is a mosaic, so I can c all the yellow pee on him. Ne ideas? Also how do I get the pee off w/out giving him a bath? Thanx

General Breeder Chat / Re: Are they Pregnant?
« on: August 14, 2009, 01:31:16 PM »
There were not any other chins in the home they came from. I do have chins, but were never let out together or caged together. They were beside males, but they were at least 3-4 inches apart. I have looked at my 4mth. old females nipples and can barely see/find them. I would say theirs are almost 1/4 an inch long, but were the exact same length when they came in. They have never been breed....which is a good thing because they are fur chewers, and not just alittle chewing....but TONS. Bless their little hearts, they have been thru alot. They are making progress, which is good. I just hate to see them stressed any longer than they need to be. The move to here was stressful enough, and I just want them to find a great home w/tons of one-on-one that they need. I they do NOT need the stress of pregnancy. Does not quite 1/4 and inch abnormal? Thanx a ton :)

Okay here we go.....I had 2 chins come into the rescue about 2 months ago. I was told they were 2yrs. old and 1 was a boy and 1 was a girl, but had not had babies yet. They have only been caged w/each other since they were babies. After I got them home I looked, and they were both girls. I emailed the previous owner, and told her, and she laughed and said "no wonder we never had any babies". Ok now that u have the history, here's the question. After being told they were a "breeding pair" I checked their nipples as I checked their sex. They both had slightly longer nipples than I have seen on a non-pregnant chin before. I have been watching them now for 2mths. and they have remained the same (their nipples). I was under the assumption that you could only barely see them (the nipples) if they are NOT pregnant. Are some chins different? Is it a chin by chin kinda thing, or in a month or so am I gonna have babies?

I have so many people that want to give them a great home, but I am holding them untill I know for sure......Thanx a bunch
