Health / Awkward GI problem
« on: September 23, 2011, 02:14:14 AM »
Hey there!
My female chin is having soft poo for over two weeks now. She didn't loose any considerable weight and anything that she lost she did put back in less than 48 hours.
In the first week I tried removing everything from her diet, keeping only fresh hay and alfalfa pellets considering that it might be a simple diet problem.
Well, it wasn't and her poo keeps having the same aspect/consistence.
Needless to say that it smells like a sewer :D
I took a poo sample to three vets but that didn't clear anything up... apparently no foreign bacteria or parasite has made his home in her GI system.
I am suspecting a lack of vitamin C which might affect her digestion.

Do you guys think at any other aspects that I should take into consideration? Should I consider a soft antibiotic?
If not, I'll probably give her an intramuscular shot with Vitamin C and a B complex.
IF it has any relevance: she is nursing 3 kits.

Thank you in advance!
Kind regards,
Vic

Q & A / Baby's got a (cough) boner
« on: August 27, 2011, 12:13:38 PM »
As the title of the topic says, one of my kits acts like he's a sex machine trying to hump everything within the cage limits.
Of course his favorite sex toys are his brothers who don't seem to be against it :). To be noted that they're 18 days old. While I find it rather hilarious I just wish to make sure that due to his perseverance he won't end up with a problem like a fur ring on the weenie or whatever. Is this behavior normal for their age?

Q & A / Chin mom loosing hair...is it normal?
« on: August 24, 2011, 02:47:08 PM »
Me again and my silly questions :)
I noticed today that my female chinchilla lost some fur around one of the teats (I hope it's written correctly)
Is this normal? I mean, I know the kits have teeth and are nursing alot but I just want to make sure that it's a normal thing to happen during nursing.
The missing fur patch is around half a square inch.

Thank you in advance!

Q & A / New babies in the house. In need of an advice.
« on: August 21, 2011, 11:52:53 AM »
Hello there!
Recently (9Th of August) my female gave birth to 3 super cute male kits: 2 Beige as the father and one standard grey like the mother.
Starting that day I weighted them nearly daily to make sure they are eating.
I weighted them 9 times by now counting the notes I did after each weight check.

Regardless: these were the weights of the kits when they got born (12 hours after actually)

Kit1: 51g
Kit2: 47g
Kit3: 48g

Now, after 12 days from the birth:
Kit1: 70g
Kit2: 60g
Kit3: 78g (Yes he's a fatty! :D )

The one that worries me most is obviously kit number 2 who gained only 12 grams in this period.
He is quite active, runs alot, he experiments on chewing wood, wood chips and hay but I'm still worried about his weight.
Could someone give me a chill pill or some advices if needed? Thank you in advance!

Oh by the way:
Female became a b***h starting 4-5 days ago and is really aggressive with the male which I had to move (the poor guy) in a different cage (way smaller obvioussly).
All was good at the beginning, the male was quite getting along with the female and the kits but now she's very aggressive to him.
I have tried putting his cage inside hers to See if they get along in short sight but she instantly started to bite the bars and guess what? : she even broke one bar O.o
Should she stop when the kits are separated from her (7-8 weeks old) ?

Thanks in advance!
Kind regards,
Vic
