New Births / Re: Triplets!
« on: May 10, 2008, 02:14:05 PM »
Sorry I haven't posted the photos yet.  I'm still trying to figure it out.  It tells me my file is too big, so I need to figure out how to make it smaller.  The babies are all doing great and getting cuter every day.

General Breeder Chat / Membership to MCBA?
« on: May 10, 2008, 01:09:06 PM »
Hi All,
Okay, I have a silly question.  Can somebody tell me how to become a member of the MCBA?  I have printed out the form, but I don't know who I can have sign.  I did get one of my chins from a member, but I haven't talked to her for about 6 months and I can't remember how to get in touch.  I'm a little backward, as my chin had her babies a couple weeks ago, and all is good!
Thanks,
Kistin

Thanks.
They are almost a week now and doing great.  One beige and the standard are females.  The other beige is male.  They are so much fun.  Such cute little fuzz balls.   ::silly::

New Births / Triplets!

I'm so excited!  My first babies and it is triplets!  My beige had 2 beige and 1 standard.  I'm just thrilled.  I never expected 3 at one time!  I read how it's usually 1 and sometimes 2 for a first time mother.  I just hope they all thrive!  They were born just hours ago, (on April 27th).  I just had to share it with everybody as soon as we discovered it!  I think I napped through it.  I will try to figure out how to post photos and do that later.  Yippee!!!!

I have 4.  My first is a beige female, I "rescued" a standard female and a mosiac female from a little girl, and a sapphire male.  I would like to get a pair for breeding violets and a s/c female for my male.  So I'm sure I'll be adding more!  Chinchillas are like tatoos, once you get one, you want to get more!

General Chat / Re: Chinchilla Names

We only named one of our chinchillas, Chinchi, a beautiful beige.  My kids named her.  The other 3 already had names when we got them.  Hamlet, a sapphire male, Monique a mosaic, and Gizmo a standard.

We have an Alaskan Malamute, that would use the chinchillas like a chew toy if she ever got a hold of them, 2 cats - one b/w shorthair and a ragdoll, 4 hamsters (in my kids rooms).  We pretty much keep all the animals seperate to be safe.  When Icee, our dog is in, the cats stay out of sight.  The chinchilla's door is always closed, partly because of the other pets, partly because of my 3 1/2 year old twin boys!

General Chat / Re: How did you get into chinchillas?
« on: January 12, 2008, 01:48:25 PM »
I first saw a chinchilla at a zoo about 20 years ago.  They were letting people pet it and I fell in love!  I wanted one ever since, but I didn't know where to get one.  After it was easier to find breeders, I was living in a mobile home without central air, so I knew it would not be good for a chinchilla.  I was finally able to get one 5 years after we moved into our house.  Now I have 4.  The ironic thing is, my relatives are giving my dad a hard time, even though he doesn't live with us, (saying "you finally have your chinchilla") because turns out, when he was a kid, he wanted to breed them for their FUR!!!!  Luckily he never did.

Hi!  I'm a newbie and have only had chinchillas for 5 months.  One day when I went into their room, I saw Chinchi's feet sticking out of the log and she was on her back.  I almost broke down crying because I thought she had died!!!!  I've caught her several times now sleeping like that.  Is that normal?  It freaks me out everytime I see it!  I have since added a friend with her and they just sleep next to each other now.  They are the perfect pair!  My other 2 girls are "rescues" that I got from a little girl who no longer wanted them.  They are always sleeping with one's head resting on the other.  They are so adorable!
