Q & A / Re: Best way to catch a chinchilla

I use rasins and the dust bath.  The latter works better.  Also, it's good to block off any places the chins might hide.

Q & A / Re: Too Late?

I didn't start out right with Dusty, either.  I picked him up against his will and chased him when he was out to play (in order to get him back into his cage, of course).  He grunted whenever he saw me, and you don't even want to know what he did when I tried to pick him up.  But I tamed him with rasins, and we became good friends.  Though he still doesn't let me pick him up, but maybe he just doesn't like to be handled.

I started out right with Lemmiwinks, and her behavior isn't to different than Dusty's.

Q & A / Re: can i put other animals in w/my chinny? and play ideas
« on: February 01, 2010, 09:38:28 PM »
Dusty often plays with my one cat, Merlin.  It often involves Merlin chasing Dusty, but if Merlin won't chase him, Dusty will try to get him to.  He'll go up to him and either nibble on his ear for attention, or try and pounce on his back!

Q & A / Re: Dare I say, "Depressed Chinchilla"?

I wouild take extra time bonding with him.  At least he'll know he still has someone to love.  That said, a new cagemate would be quite helpful.

Lemmiwinks sometimes chews that cage bars.  I give her a chew toy, and she knocks it right off.

I'm just concerned she'll wake the neighbors up and get me into trouble...and by the way, she does like the male, for reasons I won't describe...this is a G-rated site, after all!

Lemmiwinks is about a year or less old.  She does this about every other week for one night.  I don't know if she's in heat or not, but she does have a male companion living in the same cage.

Q & A / Bark! Bark! Bark!.....Bark! Bark! Bark!.....Bark! Bark! Bark!
« on: January 30, 2010, 07:31:13 AM »
My chinchilla, Lemmiwinks, was barking at 1 a.m. this morning.  She had food, so she couldn't have been hungry.  I have two cats but they sleep with me, so it couldn't have been them (they get along with the chins anyway).  How do I stop her?  She was barking three or four times, stopped for a few seconds, and started up again.  She repeated this six or seven times before finally giving it (and me) a rest....HELP!

Q & A / Regaining Trust
« on: January 19, 2010, 11:43:07 PM »
I mistakenly chased my chinchilla in her cage, and now she won't come near me or walk on my hand anymore.  Is there any way I can regain her trust?  Can a chinchilla's trust usually be regained once it is broken?  Please be honest.
