Title: 2 males in one cage 2 females in the other. Same room?
Post by: Nibbler on September 14, 2017, 04:35:32 PM
Hi I would like to keep 4 of my foster chinchillas. 2 male and 2 females. I would like to keep each pair in the separate cages but in the same room next to each other. Is this a bad Idea. Or Maybe I will keep 3 males in one big cage?

i am thinking keep just 2 males would be the way to go.

Some breeders say it's best to keep them in different rooms because chins can and do escape from cages and females can easily become impregnated through the bars. It's a judgment call. Certainly keep cages a minimum of 2" apart if you cannot use separate rooms. Males have a long reach.
