Hi I am a new chin mom and was just wondering if this is a good chin cage set up? Thank You!

that looks pretty awesome. but i will tell you this.. in a week you will buy a new cage.. and it will be the Ferret or Critter Nation cage.. Why? because I was a new mom two weeks ago and we bought ottis a new bigger cage for him to run in when we aren't around.. he LOVES it. 4 floors! haha
:)
Welcome to being a chinchilla mommy.. i love it!!!

Haha thank you. I figured lol. I've already been looking for a bigger cage and I haven't even gotten her yet :P. But I can't afford the critter nation or any bigger cage for that matter. I got this one off craigslist for $30 and made some chin modifications:) I just wanted to make sure it looked safe and wasn't missing anything important before I get her:)

You'll want to move your water bottle to the outside of the cage. Those bottles are designed so the spout goes in through the bars and the bottle clips to the outside - especially if it's a plastic bottle so your chin doesn't chew it to shreds or dislodge the bottle. Other than that it is a very nice looking setup.

Look around online (esp DIY sites) for how to build extensions to cages, I have thought of doing that (actually of making my boyfriend do it, I'm not handy like he is!) It looks nice though!

just a quick question, better to be redundandt and boring than not bother, and somone get hurt. what type of wood did you use for the shelves? it looks like untreated pine (chin safe) but it cant hurt to ask.

Untreated pine (not cedar pine) is widely used to make shelving and chew toys for chinchillas. It is generally considered "chin safe". When in doubt it never hurts to ask questions.
