Title: A new addition to our family
Post by: Debbie.nl.ca on August 13, 2006, 12:36:08 PM
We are over the 3 month mark so I feel it's time to let the cat out of the bag.
My first born, my daughter Laura is indeed pregnant, and I couldn't be happier.
I'm doing my " Happy Dance" ::dancingspot:: ::banana:: ::bouncyball:: ::fruit::
Laura was preemie at 35 weeks, but all seems perfect with her pregnancy.
She's tired and gassy but has had no sickness to speak of.
Neither did I an either of mine.
We'll get the ultra sound done in Sept. but we all have a feeling it's a boy.
She has a web site
http://pic4.piczo.com/babyking2007/?g=20060820&cr=4

I'm going to be a Granny

Thank you all so very much.
I'm on the top of the world I tell can tell you.
Yes Jo Ann I can sure the see the extras in being a Grandmother.
I get to go to the ultra sound next month, shoot they wouldn't even let me see my own when I had my kids.
Doing up an album for her, and thought you'd get a kick out of her baby pic.
She was 5 week old here and just 5 pounds, 18 inches long.
I'm still in a fog over her now having her own

Thanks Jamie,
You know I will ;D
See her fancy hair cut, the mohawk. She had I V lines in her head so they had to shave both sides all the while she was in hospital.
Funny she won't cut anymore than a couple of inches off it now, she's always kept long.

::kiss99::  A baby boy, how exciting!!!!  Congratulations Debbie to you and yours!

I thought about you the other day.  We were at my daughter's high school open house.  She is taking a child development class and her wonderful teacher is from Canada.  They only recently moved here.  She has to be one of the nicest women I have ever met and my daughter LOVES her!!!  This teacher talked all about Canadian culture and views etc... and how working women get 1 year off for maternity leave!  WOW!  That's the way to go!  I was impressed with everything she talked about.  I will have to ask her what part of Canada she is from.

Thank you my friends, it is probably the 3or4th best thing to ever happen to me.
My own two births on the top of my list.
We haven't done much yet with the babies room, afraid of jinxing I guess.
After the ultra sound Laura bought the baby it's first out fit. A Mickey Mouse suit, she's been collecting Mickey ever since she was a kid.I half expect the babies room to be a show case for Mickey stuff.
Her husband collects Hummers.
We torment them saying the baby has all the toys it will ever need, with the reply always being" he won't be aloud to touch them, their our toys" ;D
I can't wait to see how that works for them. :D
What a joy he is already.

Something so cool happened last night.
My daughter came to visit, and we were chatting about the baby.
She said he moves lots, but her Hubby hasn't got to feel yet.
She said he likes to move the most when she gets into bed.
That seems to go on for life :2funny:
Anyway, he kicked. ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was the first to feel outside his Mom.
Out of the mouths of Babes eh!
I guess my Grandson knew Nanny needed a hug! ::kiss99::

That is so neat!!  I know you were so excited!

I remember how wonderful it felt to have the baby wiggling inside of me.  But toward the end my babies would kick all night and keep me awake.  So I would snuggle up to my husband and stick my big tummy into the small of his back.  That way when the baby kicked me it also kicked him!  :D  I figured if I had to be up all night he might as well share the joy!!

Its so terrifying to think I will be watching my little girl go through it one day!  They grow up so fast!!!

Feeling them move like that is the only enjoyable part of being pregnant. I loved it! I would lay on the couch and poke around to make them move.

::silly::When my son was born 36 years ago, we didn't do sonograms to find out if it was a he or a she or even if it was twins.  My son would do his calisthenics so strongly, once the doctor said I might be having twins when he felt movement in five places at the same time.  ::banana::
His second favorite thing was to stretch out one leg and lock it in place ... I could get a hold on his little ankle and tickle his foot ... this was the only way to get him to stop.  His favorite thing was to put his little back to the front where I could rub it ... he still loves to have his back rubbed!
It may have been 36 years ago, but the memories are still clear ... I don't think you ever forget them.  :blush2:

Well can you believe she's 36 weeks.
We or should I say I got a bit of a rush last week when she had her first visit with the gyny.
She said the baby is too small. Laura was the size of a 30 week at 34 weeks.
She ordered a gestational ultra sound in a hurry and we had it done this morning, my Birthday.
I got to see my Grandson, all 5 pounds and 15 ounces of him. That's just a good estimate by the Tech.'s.
That's a very good weight and they say he should get to 8-9 pounds if she goes full term.
She still only has 14 & 3/4 pounds on, @ 8 months. That's why the Gyny was concerned.
Not to worry says Laura, he's way too active to have any problems.
I watched him turn his little head, punch his two little fists into his Mom, and he's now working those lung muscles so you can see his chest rise and fall just as if her were breathing.
I couldn't have thunk of a better way to spend my 46th birthday. ::gobananago:: ::banana::

She'll never know I posted this  :D

OMG OMG OMG ::Hairraising::

Laura just got back from her Dr.'s appointment.
She's dilated 3cms.They made another appointmet for Tuesday, but the Doc don't think she'll make.
So what do you guys know about dilating and the onset of labour.
Is there a DR in the house. rofl
My nerves are shot. ::pull hair::
We're not ready.
Her shower is Sunday, will she last?
No signs of labour yet. ::beeker::

Debbie, You better watch out!  A baby is on the way!
I am a surgical technician.  Usually a baby is born within the week (two weeks is a stretch) if dilation has occurred, especially 3cm.  It can be a two week span especially if this is her first child.  Did the Dr. say anything about the wall beginning to be soft? Did he do a vaginal exam?  If he mentioned it is softening and thinning then she is close.  Vaginal exams can help bring on labor sooner.  Since it disturbs "down there".
Keep us posted!

Wow Debbie Congrats!  Things are definately progressing and getting close.  Being her first child, one to two weeks could definately happen.  I know with my first I walked around dialated for almost ever.  Then finally they induced me.  Hopefully she makes it to her shower!

Keep us updated.

Yes Sweetnessheart she has soften & thinned, and had some spotting after the vaginal exam. She'll be 37 weeks on Sat. But his head was full term 2 weeks ago. :doh:35cms
Her Dr. says any day, but you never know for sure. ::thumbsup::

I guess she popped her plug :D

;) Hey there Debbie, or should I be saying grandma!!!  Baby is on it's way soon now!
I remember when I went to my OB for a regular appointment right on my due date and I was
3 cm dialated too.  My doctor sent us to the hospital right then & there. She said they would break my water and my labor would start.  Well, my daughter was born that afternoon.
However like Janice said above, I was also fully effaced (?), thinned out.  Basically ready to go!
Well since this was our first baby and I had no contractions or any signs of labor at the doctors office we were non believers so we stopped for lunch at McDonalds and my mom (a nurse) was yelling at me on the cell phone telling me NOT to eat anything OR dilly dally but to GET TO THE HOSPITAL!!!!!!!!!!!!  SO we did.  I guess I am glad we did go right to the hospital then because when we got there they broke my water and labor began quickly with contractions close together.  Got my epidural, dilated quickly to 10 cm and baby was born after pushing for 1 1/2 hours!

::silly:: I was in a mild labor from 7 a.m. until 10 PM before I even told anyone.  My neighbor and a good friend was playing cards with me, finally, after seeing me twitch a few times ... she ask if I was in labor ... when I said yes and the pains were just under 5 minutes apart, she freaked and rushed me to the hospital.  Of course they stopped once we got there.  The little stinker decided to go on strike and did not arrive until 1:19 PM the following day.  Some let you know ahead of time, every thing will be done their way and are just born stubborn!    rofl

Where as, a cousin of mine was eating pizza, and thought it was indigestion.  Her hubby insisted taking her to the hospital and getting it checked out.  She delivered in the elevator on the way up to the delivery room.

You never quite know what might be instore for you.  Keep us posted!

I love the stories, and as we had a snow storm on sunday, only a few gals made the shower. We sat around had turkey soup{ Laura made and was some good},then a cup of tea and sweets, but the stories were awesome.
She just called after her Dr's appointment, { their so cool now Hubby is going}, she is fully effaced and 4 cms.
The Dr's said lets see if we can get something moving here, and gave her a good root.
Another thing, she said Laura is a carrier of a streptachocil{spelling????} and will need to tell staff to give her an antibiotic when her water breaks??????
Ever heard of this lady's?
Some much new stuff since I was having babies.
I'm so excited, and looking at all the baby stuff at the shower sure brought it closer.

Wow Debbie, sounds like today or tommorrow could be it!  Thats so exciting!  Let us know when he is here!

As far as the Group B strep goes, its nothing really just antibiotics in labor to prevent passing it to the baby.  I had it with my first son too.  But oddly enough, just because you have it once doesn't mean you have it with every pregnancy.  Thats why they test you every time to be sure.  I never had it with the other 3.

I am so excited for you!!!!!

Well we had our second last prenatal last night. She's getting uncomfortable now, but still working.
Turning over in the bed requires some help.
She should have a easy time of it in delivery, or at least a shorter time.
She's over 4cms.
Her friend was due the 12th as well and had her baby Sat. She was just 2 cms & in labor.
And we are having some better weather over the next few days, it would be a good time to come.
I tried telling him last night, but never got a call all night.
It's worse than waiting for kits.
Maybe the weekend.
Any bets she'll go over the 12th.

::silly::I don't know about the mom, but I don't think Debbie will make it to Valentine's Day!

I'll never forget ... 20 years old ... my first and only child ... the day he was due, I went to the doctor's office suitecase-in-hand.  The doctor laughed and told me it didn't work that way.

I was almost in tears ... we had a good idea from the first week and were positive by 4 1/2 weeks (back then that was the earliest even a doctor could confirm the pregnancy).   Boy was that a l-o-n-g 9 months!

But not as long as the 10th month ... yep, lacked 8 days carrying him 10 months ... He was due January 10th and born February 2nd ... Ground Hog's Day!

Hummmmm .... bet I could have talked all day and not given you that possibility!   Sorry!

They already have little minds of their own ... before they even get here!

Oh my nerves, no by Valentines day they'll have me committed.
I think I noticed a bit of a drop today though, and the Doc did give her another good going over.
She did say not to be surprised if she make her next weeks appointment.
They won't do anything to bring in on until after the 12th. Then she said well your own dates are for the 17th so maybe we'll wait until then
Can you believe she has been dilated now for over 3 weeks.
Everyone here says, "well would you come out in this cold?" ::)

Thank you all so very much, I'm so elated. ::banana:: ::kiss99::
And you know I'll remember each one of you the rest of my life as being part of this great adventure.
He came home Sunday to a family welcome, it was a great day with both sides of the family passing him a round.
Then Monday we got socked with almost 60cms of snow.Everything was shut down, roads closed and power outages. Then 2 days to clear out. Their calling for more on Sat.
Then Wed. morning at 2am Laura takes with pains in her chest. Just like those that put her in labour.
Her Hubby was so worried he took her to the hospital, baby and all. I met them there.
They were afraid of a blood clot in her lung.Took xrays and blood work but had to wait for the techs to come on at 8am to do a needed cat scan.
Well by noon she finally had the test, and all was fine. She seems to be suffering from gas that pins in her chest and may need to go on something. The Doc said he's seen grown men double over with it, and think they were having a heart attack. They have recommended Zantac.
Oh the rush, and as her Mom you know I was going through all the scenarios :::(((
Thankfully all is well.
Darling little Cody slept through the works.
Thing is she can't breast feed now for the next 24 hours, and has to pump off the old milk.
Oh and Colby is still working the night shift, ;)
He sleeps the most from 6 am to noon, and is wide away late nights.
The same schedule his Mom kept during the pregnancy, she worked nights.
I'll get caught up in the next few days with all the new post, I'm not gone anywhere, just shoveling. ;D

I'm glad to hear it was "only" gas!  I've had a blood clot break off and go to my lungs...  It certainly isn't fun.
Hopefully the weather stays clear for you!

::silly::Isn't strange how we always expect the worst?   :-\

In a way, that is good ...   ::think::

If it is bad, we can handle it, because we expected it ...  ???

If it is good, we sure can feel the relief ...   ::nod::

And all is well with the world again.   :)

Funny, my girls had hair like that when they were born too!  Very dark and thick just like mine.
::thumbsup:: I thought they would look like me!  Well all of their birth hair fell out and came back in blonde.  Now years later they still have blonde hair in high school!  Go figure.

::silly::Handsome young man there!  If we could only keep them at that age.

My nephew had hair like that when he was born ... then one morning it all fell out at the same time ...
my sister panicked ... but he was fine ... it all grew back.   :::grins::

I know what you mean about those outfits, Joyce, they didn't have things like that when Johnny was born ... of course that was 37 years ago.  Back then, you were lucky to find something that did not look like a sleeper with a draw-string at the bottom.

The hair is the most talked about, will he loose it?????
No signs yet.
Mine just got the bald spot on the back of the head from laying on it.

He's adorable :)  A little chunker!  All my kids were tiny things, its so cute to see them bigger.  I have 5 weeks to go until the baby gets here - April 12th.  Seeing baby pictures just makes me want it to come all that much faster.

I really like the site.  ;) It makes me think of when I had my little girl. When I had my little boy I had a lot of problems and was out of it the first few days.

Oh Jacqui,
This is by far the hardest part, the last month or so. Waiting and waiting.
Do you know what your having? Did I ask before, LOL my head is still in the clouds girl. ;D And all your other kids were tiny things, geez how many do you have?????? :D
Aw Stacy that's to bad, but well in the past now yes????
I gotta show ya this one, it's one of my favorites so far.
Ya know Laura had another bout with that gas last night, she be's in so much pain, and I can't kiss it and make it better.
She started with a shot of the pink stuff, a glass of Enos, a Tylenol, and t cups of mint tea. After 3 hours it passed off again.
Colby slept right through it, then decided to stay up and play the rest of the night. ;)

Awwww he's adorable Debbie.  And boy she looks great for just having a baby.

Yes we know we are having a boy :)  Right now we currently have two boys and a little girl.  I really wanted another boy, I think they're much easier than girls ;D

Geez I just lost my post, now what did I say. :D
Oh ya, Jacqui you have your hands full, but I would have loved to have had more kids.
This Nan bit it pretty darn cool thought.
Now I found my girl easier than my boy, he was a worry. Fearless, and I was afraid he'd try anything.
He would dive off a clift if I let him, then I'm sure he did when I wasn't around. ::scaredspeachless::
I still worry about him and he's 23 now.

Laura and family had their first portraits done yesterday, and had them back last night.
Colby's hair is gettiing so much lighter, but it's all still there.

Awww nice family pictures :)  Is that going to be their birth announcement?

I came from a big family too Debbie - 5 brothers.  I always loved the chaos.  When the kids or no ones around, I don't know what to do in the quiet!  ::)

My boys are much more adventurous, but then I guess having two older brothers my daughter picked it up too.  But the extra bonus I get with her is the picky, girlyness.  She's spazes when her hairs out of place, her hands are sticky, or if you didn't tuck her into bed just right.  And daddy of course caters to her, only making it worse :blush2:

That's to funny, Laura hated sticky hands, but Mathew would rather roll in the mud. ;D
