Title: I need some info on a protest
Post by: georgiachins on June 13, 2008, 08:56:52 AM
I've decided that I can't take Petco selling chins anymore.  The kits look like they are barely 6 weeks old & the employees just reach in & grab them however they can & then they let kids handle them.  UGH!!  I'm frusterated.  But I figure if I can get enough people to come up there on a Saturday (while they are doing pet adoptions) & I'm going to be calling the radio stations, news papers, & TV stations because they are really tough on animals that aren't treated properly.  I just need to know if any one here has done a protest & if so what paper work, like permits, do I need to get & from where?  And if any one wants to join in that can travel to Augusta to help... the more people that are there the more impact it will have & the more chance there will be for getting chins out of Petco(at least in Augusta)!!

Try contacting www.Chincare.com  I think Sally has done things like that before and might have some suggestions.

i know what you mean i rescued a female chin from a petco and it looked like she hadn't had a bath in forever and then to top it off when we went to check out the lady knocked the box she was in on the floor i was so afraid to look in it i thought she might have been hurt but she was ok the point is if you don't know anything about them then don't sell them.

I'm going to contact the lady about permits etc that I need to do a protest legally.

I know what you mean... if you don't know ANYTHING at all about them... DON'T even think about getting them in your store.  A girl wrote me about chinchillas & said she went to the Petco to see their chinchillas.  She said she was horrified when the employee reached in & grabbed the chin around the belly & pulled half of it's fur out.  Then she asked him how often they dusted their chins... he said, "we don't, he mist them with water when they are dirty"... OMG... it's so frusterating but I want to get them out of there.  Plus I was in Petsmart buying some ledges & things & the woman asked what kind of animals we were buying for... I told her chins... then she said the manager is talking with a chin supplier to get chins in their store!!! UGH!!  I'm all worked up just thinking about it!

Jamie,

I went to that site & I can't find a contact email.  Do you happen to know what that is?  Thanks!

I get sooo aggrivated when I go into pet stores and see alot of the animals not being housed and handled properly. I have gotten my local pet store in gear though and several animals that I happen to know alot about . One was the Chins. They had the dust bath in there 24/7 ... they don't do that anymore . They didn't have the hermit crabs in a humid invironment with both salt and fresh water available. they do now and they had the rats housed on pine bedding thats a HUGE NO NO . they changed it .

I have no problem with pointing out things that aren't correct and if they won't listen I have no issue with making calls and such . I hope your protest goes well.
