Title: I have a question about chinchilla pregnancy?
Post by: chinchillalicious on August 15, 2016, 07:16:20 AM
If a chinchilla is 6 years old is there a possibility she can give birth even though she never gave birth in her life? My friend has a 7 month male. I'm not sure how to answer his question, he  saw a site that said if a female never gave birth since 2 years old the won't get pregnant so he want's to put them together as friends he doesn't have enough money to neuter them. My friend asked me this question since I've had chinchillas for a long time, but personally I don't know.

I don't know where you heard that but it is inaccurate. Chinchillas can give birth all the way to the end of their furry little lives. Do not combine them. Just keep them in separate cages. I recommend against neutering. It can be done but it is not without risk and convalescence can be a nightmare unless you're really into hands-on care with small animals.

That information is very incorrect. They can breed their whole lives. I personally had a 13 yr old give birth this yr.
