Health / Re: Back to CAGNEYS EYE again...
« on: February 25, 2010, 05:44:19 PM »
I narrowed it down to the dust as every thing else in their MARSHALL doesn't move. It doesn't happen to Bogart, only Cagney. They have been getting a bath 2 a week compared to 4. For some reason, after the bath, the following day...he gets this white "dot" in the inner corner of his eyes. So, I willhave to be prepared for the rinsing of his eyes after a bath and wiping of the face w/damp cloth, vacuuming out their cage after each bath. It is a very fine dust when u look at it, maybe corn starch would be good. I use whatever PETSMART has.  :::((( :::(((

It was shut this AM, so I use cotton balls, cool water to wipe it toward the outside of the eye, it opened up w/all this gook coming out, rinsed it out w/contact solution as there is a wad of crap in there, irrigate it out, wipe dry & add the drop to his eye. Seems once u get that out...we are on the healing side w/the antibiotic drops.  :::((( :::(((I try to be very careful on the pressure I use cause I AM SURE it hurts him as it would us. Baby wipes is a great idea!!! Have them, lol

He is cute though, I use a silk cloth (prevent coat slip-works like a charm), cover him up, carry him around & talk to him. When I do his eye, I wrap him up so I have just his face available, off to the bathroom for cool cotton ball wipes, I throw each out after 1 wipe. Carry him around somemore and talk to him, goes back to his cage and gets a 2 raisens cause he was good and to show him its ok, lol

I am believing it's the DUST that is causing the problem, after narrowing it all down. He is a Violet, from a pet store, according to out Vet, he isnt the best quality of Chin, BUT I refuse to part with him for that. I got him to keep Bogart company and it has worked out beautifully!!!! I did call the Vet, haven't heard back from them on what else I could use as a "bath" dust. I have cut it back to 2 a week, this is the 3rd. infection over 2 mths. He gets the eye drops again for 10 days. He has been to the vet and checked out, no teeth problems, great weight, etc..

Health / Mr Cagney Eye

Changed the drops to Gentocin liquid and he did alot better, he has that for 10 days at 2 a day. He and Bogart had their bath, and I took a wash cloth and wiped Cagneys lil face and head, so we will see how that does. Also, cleaned out their bath container.

I thank you for the advice on changing his eye med, the vet readily gave it w/o a problem, the ointment is harder to use though.

Our vet reccommends the rice krispies for them as they are lower in suger, and they love cheerios, this is mixed in their food in a bin.

Good morning Lori:
Thank you for your reply, it is very informative for me:):) Yes, the ointment is messier and gets on his coat, he wipes his eye w/his Lil paw. I also use a baby shirt w/short sleeves, so not to slip his coat, I put his head thru the short sleeve, and am better to hold on to him also. His paws are out of my way, he doesn't slip coat, I have better control of him. Just an FYI, it does work!!!

I have soft contacts and have solution that (I can use in my eyes) I use Bausch & Vet says that it was fine to use, I do warm it in my armpit so its not soo cold for his eye:(:(:(. I will ask vet today about the Gentamycin this AM, and will keep in mind about cleaning his eyes after bath time.

Again, thank you very, very much!!!

Health / CAGNEY (eye infection)
« on: January 26, 2010, 10:55:09 PM »
Ok, Cagney had an eye infection the first part of Jan., his left eye was sealed shut. I warm compressed it, it opened up on it's own...and all this white puss came out. Rinsed with contact lens cleaner (vet recommends such). Then the right started up, not as bad as the left. Warm compress, made sure was all cleaned out and no crusties left behind on his hair.

So today, I noticed the left eye again is closed and got right on top of i as before!!!!  I am wondering if the dust is causing this?? Bogart is fine, no problem. They dust 2 a week, NO dust while Cagney is healing

Took him to the vet, was checked over, teeth are great, ears are great, he is in great condition!!!! The vet gave me TERRAMYCIN, 1/4 strip on eye 2 a day.

Hi JoAnn:
Thanks for the info on Cagney, I have never seen a "long nose" chin. They call him a Rare Violet, has the white stomach and all. Has put on some real good weight, that, he didnt have when I got him. They have turned in to 2 great buddies for one another,

Oh, thye like the ferret T-Pee, has 4 zippered sides and they both sleep together, also went to Lowe's, and bought my own 2 granite blocks to keep them cool. They really like them alot, LOLO.

Cagney has been coming around since I put them in the same cage after 2 weeks, Bogart gets pissy cause I am holding Cagney, when I hold Bogart...Cagney could care less:):):)

Bogart is the Standard Gray and Cagney is the Rare Violet

Well, Bogart loves his new male buddy "Cagney". Cleaned down the whole cage last night, fresh hay, and "their give some goodies out of our box mommie", added a second water bottle, seems to be using it alot.
I noticed on Cagney that his nose seems to be a little bit longer than Bogarts, almost like a rat nose. Now, I doubt a rat and a chin mated!! Is this  genetic?? I don't plan on breeding them, he is a Violet. He has gotten really tame like Bogart so I am happy with my 2 boys.

General Chat / size of carrier
« on: February 28, 2009, 10:27:05 PM »
rofl

The carrier isn't tiny, but small enough for a small animal, I didn't smoosh them though either.
As of earlier today: Bogart was cleaning Cagney, Cagney let him and makes his little eeking noises, then he cleans Bogart, so back and forth. It has worked out well so far, I still open cage (Large Mitchell Ferret), and talk to Bogart and Cagney. Cagney still eeks, not as much though, I pet him and pick him up and walk around with him, then go back and get Bogey.

The bath thing did not work, it was just to crowded for the 2 of them, thank god for gloves!!!!!!.

So, after 2 or 3 weeks from when I got Cagney, this is where I am at. Right now, they are laying next to one another. Sounds fast, but it's how it worked out and am pleased with the Boyz. Seems they are very accepting on one another, even though Bogey is2 years old.

Well I took Bogart & Cagney, the both got their bath, meanwhile, I cleaned  the small carrier I have w/soap and water, rinsed it back out and dried it out. Sprinkled the carrier with their bath powder, carrier has screen on both sides to see in, and wiped it all over the crate. I added Cagney first (newest) waited a few minutes and added Bogart (2years).

Of course fur flew, no real battles, they are sitting in the crate next to me, gloves ready, as I have my coffee, ad type here, there isn't fighting and screaming, more of chasing around and making noises, but nothing serious. Have one scratching to get out-Bogart. This all started at 7 AM, Bogart comes to the screen, and I talk to him and scratch the screen, opened up screen door, some fur, no blood. So, its quiet again and better., and it's 7:25Am, another 5 minutes and they can come out and backto their crates, seems to be more scuffling that anything else, just furry in there. Bagart seem to be the dominate male, both r BOYZ

General Chat / Cagney my newest chin

:)

A few weeks have gone by, Bogart and Cagney still in separate cages, but right now switched off to one anothers cage. Cagney just goes ekekekek, he has gotten better about me picking him up more, talking to him, walking around with him, scratching his head. Not as bad about trying to jump. Had company over the week end so he was held alot, then play time in the bathroom. Cagney is still a little guy, a goo appetite though, so I think he is about 4 mths old, not as old as they said he was. He is better about you putting your hand in his cage, smells your hand and offer him a treat. His little house...if you put your hand in there, he ekks but doesn't do anything and I pet him in there too. They are both by a TV also, he looks at it on occasion.

Bogart still wants to go at him, I told him "no bad boy" and he left,  introducing with Cagney being held & Bogarts cage door open. Bogart gets his attention as well. ::silly:: ::silly:: ::silly:: ::silly:: ::silly:: ::silly:: ::silly:: ::silly::

I found the bird toys work, Bogart likes the bells, he makes them ring all the time,so he has a few. They little round balls to chew on, plus his cuddle bones. So, he seems to be happy with it all.

General Chat / The new Chin Cagney

 ::silly::  :-\

I got Cagney (week ago Sunday), from the same pet store as Bogart, Cagney makes all these noises all the time, he also did the same at the pet store. They said all he is 5 months old, I don't know that he is even 5 mths. old.  Bogart was 6 mths. and wasn't making these kinds of assorted noises or vocals. He does them when I pet him in his cage, when I take him out of cage once a day only.
So I am very curious as to why all the vocals with Cagney?? The newest is that he will let me stick my fingers in his cage, he smells them & doesn't bite. He takes some food from my fingers thru the cage, he is more to coming out now at night.
He and Bogart have been switched once to one another's cage after clean-out as the book says. They are close together but not very close enough to loose fingers or toes.

Thanks,
Laurie, Bogart and Cagney
