Title: What color am I?
Post by: Iokken on June 23, 2011, 05:21:06 PM
My dad is white sc/vc (Im guessing we dont know if he is violet or saphire carier) - his fur is very white and his eyes, ears etc are very dark
My mom is violet sc - her fur is really lush and thick - its all the same color

I am light gray with a darker dot on my side. My belly is white and so is my nose, paws and the tip of tail

the flash makes her fur appear a little darker than it is - the difference between the different shades of gray are not as large as they seem here :) most of her fur looks like it may be violet

The little one is just a white mosaic, not sure on carriers, but those don't matter for seeing his color at the moment. I've had mosaics just like him/her. Some of them lighten up over time, some of them stay that color.

Silver isn't an actual color.  It is a white mosaic.  Over the years people have created color names to better describe the different looks a white mosaic can have.  Most people think of a mosaic as being mainly white with grey spots.  If the white and grey are pretty evenly distributed like the picture above people call it a silver.  Sometimes a chinchilla can be mainly grey with white spots.  People call that a reverse mosaic.  Still other times the grey can be all but invisible and people tend to call those black-eyed whites (not to be confused with wilson whites which are pretty rare now).  All are from the same color breeding and all are actually white mosaics.

ok thanks! that cleared it up :) the breeder actually wrote "wilson white" on her board (the family tree thingy) but that really didnt seem right : )

she did get lighter with age: (http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mAILwWk7Ugg/ThH7Vwi5HII/AAAAAAAAADg/ASla4WLkk6A/s1600/Kiwi+10uger+%252818%2529.JPG)

Wilson white and Mosaic same thing. It is a mosaic like Jamie said. A lot of people make up names to sell chinchillas.  Silvers are whites. I have heard champagne used to sell beiges, and Chocolates are really dark tans

Then that breeder is very very misinformed. I only know of a very few people working with blue diamonds and only experainced breeders should mess with them, as for the beige diamond  seems like she is calling white sapphires and beige sapphires that, But if she doesn't know proper terminolgy she really shouldn't be breeing them as it is unlikely this breeder knows what she is doing. a lot of people are in it to just make money by breeding mutation to mutation to mutation

THe strange thing is that she is actually a very experienced breeder. Her animals are really nice (their fur, their tempers etc) and she really do know what she is doing. First I read that she had a "white diamond" and I thought, well maybe there was something I didnt read, but I simply cannot find that mutation anywhere.

On the other hand, its just a name, its not like she doesnt know what she is doing :) Rather that, than someone (like me :P) who knows the names but have no clue how to breed (I do not breed and Im not going to)

If she breeds to show she would know the names.
