Ah ok, well, I didnt know about it and I started bubbles off with a wheel in her cage, so basically since 2 months. I recently took it out, just being worried that it was bad for her ect. But she was using it every night, or whenever she was in the mood. So do you guys think I should just wait it off till her weight balances out, or would the wheel be fine. Or instead give her playtime outside of the cage? and how often?

So im a little confused, I have a 4 month old chinchilla, should she be having playtime? Should she have a wheel in her cage? I did a bit of research and its 50/50 really, people state that chins shouldnt have a wheel or playtime before 6 months so they can gain all the weight ect... So im not sure, any helpful input would be great.

Hehe yea, I will start monitoring the water, I monitor her poop all the time, I clean her cage every day since day one .

Ok, so the vet visit was pretty good, she checked bubbles up, she checked her teeth (without xray), and said everything seems good. Due to being last minute the vet couldnt do an xray today, but did give me a anti inflammatory pain reliever to try. She stated to administer it today, and see if bubble's stops pawing at her mouth and having weird eating issues. If the pain reliever helps then I will be getting an xray on monday. She also stated that due to it being a female, and almost 4 months, her hormones might be kicking in, so some of the abnormalities that might be occuring, could be normal because bubbles smell is changing ect. So due to never owning a chin before, im experiencing everything first hand. I am relieved though that everything checked up for now. Im going to administer the pain reliever tonight after bubbles gets some rest (the vet visit was very stressful for the poor thing). I did just watch her eat, and she was eating pellets without pawing at her mouth (so thats a good sign, it could of just been a weird issue idk). Now its just time to play the waiting and watching game.

Also I would really like to thank you Gray, And Jason for your help, It definitely help me relax a little bit.

Ok well that clears out a lot of the things i thought , I weighed her two days ago, and she was 417, yesterday (idk why) she was 411, which worried me but then at 2 in the morning she was 408. I decided to sleep on it, and I weighed her this morning she is 418. So It seems she is gaining weight. Maybe the weighing was user error, idk I will keep on checking. Watching her this morning when I fed her, I noticed she is crunching the food up in her mouth and its falling out. Im not sure if its 100% as she just decided to eat a bit as always and go to sleep. Its out morning retinue

Edit: I would also like to notice, when shes like half asleep or waking up, and just sitting in her house, she moves her mouth left and right, not necessary grinding her teeth(maybe not sure how this would look or if it would have a sound), but soundless just swishing left to right.

Edit2: I just witnessed her eatting a pellet and opening her mouth really wide, and basically a large goop of saliva came out, ill be heading to the vet soon. Will keep this posted.

Yea, she landed on all 4's and they are fine, she isnt limping, shes popcorning and stuff. So she seems fine, except when it comes to her mouth movements... Im not too positive about them. Like i just saw her paw at her mouth, which I know isnt a good thing technically. But this is the first time I saw this for the last 4 days... How loud does your chin eat? Do you hear every single little bite they make?

So Bubbles decided to fidget a little too much for me and she jumped out of my hands and landed perfectly on the floor. It doesnt seem like she hurt herself, I would say the fall was about 4 feet long. Im worried though, iv been inspecting her. Her poop is fine, shes eating, and drinking, and seems active. I'm just worried she might be hurt. On thing that I noticed is she like tilts her head and looks at me sometimes. I know that tilting of the head in chins is not good. But im not sure if this was their before the fall. I also am noticing teeth noises more, but this could be because iv been so worried.... She has been a weird eater since day 1. what she does is she eats half of a pellet and then throws the rest inside of the bowl. once shes done with eating half of every single one, she will eat half of the half, so in the end, her bowl has a bunch of like crushed pellets.. By the morning though she eats everything. Idk if im just paranoid or what. Could anyone help me out... Iv honestly been debating about taking her to a vet tomorrow or the day after if there are openings...

Edit: Ugh and like her ears are up, she seems completely fine, shes active, she comes to me. Im just so confused and lost about what to do. Shes 4 months old in two days! The last thing i want to do is lose her

Yea, I was figuring it could be because she is really young. I guess I'll stick to the gloves for a little. Like I don't understand her sometimes, if I'm wearing gloves, she won't bite. She won't even bite my arm, when she gets to my elbow, she feels around and kind of starts to try biting, I guess the she feels the sensitive parts are food? Idk Lol. But I did take your advise, one of the things I did yesterday when she bit me was I held her close to me, and she was spazing out trying to escape. So hopefully over time it'll get better.

So I have owned my chin for about a month now. She is adorable, she comes to my hands etc, however I can't feed her, or else she will bit my fingers or any soft part of my hand in deeply and draw blood. If I wear gloves, she will come up smell them and hop into my hands. I make sure to wash my hands and use sanitizer. I honestly don't know what to do, its quite painful and it takes a while for the scars to heal.. she just got the inner side of my thumb and got in so deep she got under my nail (I bled quite a bit). She is young she is about 3 months now, is she biting like this because she is still young? I blow on her  every time she bites. But she seems to pull harder.

Any help would be great, as I would personally like to tame her and I feel its working well, just the biting is painful as hell.

ok, so because my trip is a three day trip(give or take a few hours, its 3k miles) i decided to test out a drive with Bubbles(my chin). it was a 5 and a half hour trip, 2 hour drive, a break for 1 hour and then another 2 and a half hour drive. she slept for most of the time and ate hay when she woke up within the drives. i also gave her water during the 1 hour break. however after the 5 hour trip when i took her back home, and prepped her cage to put her back in, she was chewing the metal carrier like crazy. im guessing because she was stressed out and the ride ended. i dont want her hurting herself, would she calm down after some time? the reason i ask is, i kind of need to sleep each day for a little bit in order to continue driving. would anyone advise opening a foldable cage and having her in there while i sleep? or if her being cooped up in a carrier for 3 days is ok? i understand she might be mad at me, but i just want her safe ect. so shell eventually have to forgive me .

Many chinchilla breeders will take their chinchillas to out of town or out of state chinchilla shows. They say that usually their chinchillas will not eat or drink until they come back home. They normally do not travel well. Other animals like mine doesn't seem to care. I've had him in a carrier out of the house for different reasons and he'll eat and drink like nothing is wrong so it is going to depend on your pet. In the very worst case you can attempt to syringe feed critical care if it's necessary to have him away longer and he has not eaten after 24 hours otherwise you risk potentially fatal complications from GI stasis.
The biggest travel danger is overheating. Make sure to keep your chinchilla off the floor of the car where the hot exhaust and transmission are. They should never be exposed to temperatures above 75F and are best transported in the winter.
Chinchillas should be kept in a fairly small travel cage at all times for their safety. I recommend not letting it out until you've reached your destination.

Ok, well thanks for the answer. So having the chin in a carrier for two and a half days would be ok? as long as it gets the proper feeding and water correct? So what happens if the chin stops eating half way through the trip. or doesnt eat, and i only realize it half way in the trip, what should i do in that situation? Would going on a few shorter trips better prepare the chin? other then let me know if she will eat or not.

So i did a bit of research, but I'm still not sure about a few things. People stated that its fine to take a chin on trips by car etc. Heres my question, how long can the chin be in the carrier before it starts freaking out, and should i have a collapsable cage for when I stop, for the chin to get some activity for like an hour or so. The trip is over 2k miles, so I'm just curious if anyones done a long trip like this.
