Title: Tissues, vets
Post by: Snickerdoodlesmom on January 27, 2013, 10:23:29 AM
I'm not sure if I asked this before, but the vet (when we dropped Snickerdoodle off so we could go on vacation) said that tissues can cause bowel obstruction. However, she also told me to go to an exotics specialist when I asked a different question (can't remember what it was). I'm not worried that my chinchilla is in bad hands- the vet who's watching him is my uncle's close friend, so she'll pay extra attention to my pet- but are tissues really bad for chins? And how much do vets actually know about chinchillas?

Too much tissue can be bad.

Each vet is different in how much experience they have had.  It is ok to ask them what their experience is.  I have met vets who studied them in vet schools, others who own chinchillas, some that have treated chinchillas, and some that have never even seen one in person.

She said she would be nervous if she had to treat him (for malo or anything).

Then she is not the vet you want.
