Title: New chin Owner with a question!
Post by: tanelson on March 18, 2016, 09:32:54 AM
Hello everyone my names Trent! I'm a brand new chin owner having picked up a female gray chin from a local petsmart whom I've affectionately named Alana. I'm in the process of making her more comfortable, currently she seems to be enjoying her home and allows me to scratch her chin and be in her very immediate proximity with no fuss. The one thing I am curious about however is her age, unfortunately petsmart could not tell me how old she really is, and my friend insists she couldn't be very old as she's very tiny and can currently jump only a foot and a half to two feet. Does anyone have a good idea of how old she might be?

Welcome to the Chinchilla club and congrats on your new pet. Looking at the proportions I'm going to guess about 4 months. Unfortunately chinchillas can vary significantly by size depending on their breeding although the females tend to grow larger than males. I'm also going to guess she's less than a year old because her fur also looks baby-ish. She can probably jump higher than 2 feet if she really wanted to though.

I thought so too (I'm the friend Trent was speaking about). If she is about four months old, how much weight should she be gaining every week?

Hi Gray! Thank you for your input. I have no doubt she can jump higher, she's a book of secret powers that one :)

There is no way to know age. Some lines can grow up to 2 yrs old. So somewhere under that age would be a safe guess
