Health / chewed up ears
« on: May 01, 2010, 10:14:31 PM »
Lucy came to us with her ears a little ragged.  Her left ear is missing a portion on top (looks like someone took a bite of out it) it also has a split and her right ear has littles holes in it as if she got it pierced multiple times.  I guess when she was in the cage at the pet shop with another chin it decided to show her who was boss  :::((( and since she was only a baby well, you get the idea. My questions is-will her ears ever heal completely and is there anything I can put on her ears to help the healing process?  I feel so bad for her that she was abused this way, she is such a sweetie with us. Oh, she will let us touch her ears a bit, so I'm guessing no pain or anything like that, it just looks so pitiful  ::chinsad::

General Chat / Snuggle buddy
« on: April 20, 2010, 08:05:02 PM »
So reading through posts I saw that some owners said that the chins sometimes like a stuffed animal companion.  I went to Petsmart, browsed through the selections and picked up a hedgehog dog toy.  Fairly small, no plastic and even though it's a hedgehog because it is furry kinda somewhat looks like a chin  :chin: so I thought well I'll give it a go.  After playtime that night ::silly:: I introduced toy to Lucy.  She likes to perch on top of her house so I put the toy there and watched.  Lucy hopped up next to her new friend (who I have dubbed Ethel) and she put her front paws over Ethel and pulled her in close and at first I thought she was chewing her but on closer viewing Lucy was grooming Ethel!! She tucked Ethel under her, closed her eyes and began to drift off to sleep -  ::kiss99:: it truly was love at first sight!  I have kept a close watch on Ethel and there are no chew marks or pieces of her in the cage so Lucy has decided this is a snuggle buddy for sure.  It is so cute to see Lucy in her house with Ethel all cuddled  |hugs|

General Chat / Confusing me!!!
« on: April 08, 2010, 07:29:30 PM »
Ok, so Lucy is totally confusing me ???  Pretty much every night we take her out to play.  She gets about an hour or so of playtime, running, jumping, tubes to run through, humans to climb all over.  But for the past couple of nights, suddenly she doesn't want to come out of her cage.  We open the door, call her name, try to coax her out - and she plays hard to get.  Or runs back into her house.  If she comes out close enough, we will scoop her up and give her playtime, and she will play, but then after about 30 minutes or so she sits in front of the cardboard barrier and gives a little I guess you would call it whimper like she is asking to go back to her cage.  Is this common behavior?  Because before this, if we didn't let her out of her cage for playtime she would gnaw the bars and basically give us dirty looks and whine to come out!  Is she messing with me?  Did we do something wrong?  I feel like a bad mommy :(  I know she is playing hard to get, but I am feeling guilty that she is not getting playtime.

Q & A / How do I entertain her?
« on: March 18, 2010, 07:13:49 PM »
I am a new chin owner, my oldest gifted me with an 11 week old female last week on my birthday.  She is adorable! Her name is Lucy and she is pretty smart having already figured out that open cage door means out to play.  However, once she hops into my arms, I don't quite know what to do.  I feel sad that having already gained her trust that she will come out to me so willingly, I am at a loss as to how to entertain her.  My bathroom is small and I don't have another room safe enough to allow her to roam freely.  Right now she is gnawing her cage bars in frustration that I have put her back into the cage already.  Please, any suggestions would be great! Thanks.
