Q & A / Chinchilla Introduction question
« on: August 30, 2009, 08:09:45 PM »
Hello everyone,

I got a new chinchilla today as a friend for the one I already had. I put them face to face with each other on opposite sides of one's cage and they started to hiss and bite at each other. A few hours later, after it seemed like they had calmed down, I decided to do it again and they seemed ok. I then took it to the next step and put them in the same cage. The one I already had, Crash, started chasing the new one (Rocko) around the cage and then the interesting part happened. Crash mounted Rocko and started humping him like crazy!  ::Hairraising:: I didn't know what to do. This happened a few more times and then I seperated them. While this was happening Crash was biting on Rocko's ear too (no blood or anything). What could this mean? BTW they are both boys.

Please help!  ::shrug::

Q & A / transfort question
« on: August 27, 2009, 01:37:04 PM »
I am getting my new baby chin tomorrow and I do not have a transport cage. I was wondering if a cardboard box would be ok...the ride will only be about an hour. Any suggestion??

General Chat / I saved a life tonight..
« on: August 16, 2009, 10:41:36 PM »
Something terrible almost happened tonight :::((( I walked into my room where I keep my chin. He is just about 4 months now and get into everything like any chin does  :D I had one of those metal spheres that hangs in the cage for the hay(https://bunnyrabbit.com/equipmentpix/wa00713-hayball_small.jpg) and I came in to find my chin dangling from it   :o I was so scared, poor thing, i had no clue how long he had been like that for. He had squeezed his body through one of the tiny openings and his hips and knees got caught. He was struggling a lot to get out and finally, after some manipulation of the wires, I was able to get him free  ::clapp::.

I was wanted to let people know, especially newbies like myself, that these guys can get into anything and you really need to be careful..even with things that you leave in their cage  :doh:

North East USA / Newbie from NH
« on: August 09, 2009, 08:59:53 PM »
Hey everyone! My name is Stacie and I am a proud chin mommy from NH. Just wanted to say hey to everyone and was wondering if you guys could help me out with a few things.

1. My chin, Crash, is always banging on his cage like he is a prisoner waiting to escape  ::pull hair::. I let him out for atleast an hr-2hrs every day. I talk to him, I play music, and I give him lots of attention. He has already broken one of the doors on his cage that i had to replace. He has plenty of toys to play with and ledges to jump on. I'm wondering why he is acting like this?? ::confused::

2. He never seems to let me hold him. As soon as I pick him up he just squirms and tries to run away. He willingly will come to my hands and when he is out of his cage he will run up to me and jump on me but he just wont let me hold him. :-\

Thanks everyone for any suggestions you have for me!
