Breeding 101 / breeding
« on: December 23, 2012, 07:12:23 PM »
i have 2 chinchillas one female that is about 8 months and a new 2 month old boy. i have been going threw introducing steps and so far they usually run to there corners, but tonight they are nibbling each other (witch looks like grooming) but he seems to jump on her back and she runs away. is grooming normal and is it a good thing since they just met?? and apparently chinchillas are suppose to be menstruating from about 4-6 months of age and ive never found any blood in the cage, is it possible she isnt menstruating at all? and is it possible that my boy could already be sexually active??
please answer as soon as possible, thank you!

News / corn and nuts
« on: November 03, 2012, 01:36:59 PM »
Hello,
i was wondering if i could give some dried corn to my chinchilla? is it healthy for her? and i've heard that nuts are very fattening for chins so i was wondering if just giving her the walnut's shell would it be ok or still as bad for her?

Thank you in advance :)

Health / strange behavior
« on: November 01, 2012, 04:13:36 PM »
Hello,
in July of this summer i adopted a beautiful little female i named Lilly :) we were getting quite along but about 2 weeks ago she started acting a little different. She seems scared of me more than she used to be, she barks sometimes when i try to touch her, she seems less intrigued by her treats and so i was wondering what was going on and if i should go see a vet :/ on a completely subject i was wondering how to tell if a chin is dehydrated and if there are tricks to notice such things and ever since ive gotten her she bites the bars of her cage, it is 4 levels high and i let her out as often as i can (so in between 1h and 1h30) i was wondering if this is normal :/ is it ok? and is it because she is board? i should be getting her a friend this Christmas hopefully that should help!

thank you :)
