Title: Got a ?
Post by: RollinEK on June 13, 2010, 11:52:12 AM
As some of you know, Ive been wanting to rescue chincs in need. Well, ive found one, problem is, thats its a boy, and i have females. I do not want to end up with kits, so he is going into a different cage.
Q1. Can they still play together in the playroom ( after being introduced ), without making little chins?
Q2. How can i tell if my female is in season? Do they have a " heat " like a dog or something?

thank you guys and girls in advance

Josh

hi... if they did end up getting along, letting them play together is quite dangerous i think

as for when she is in season, i think she drops a plug.. i have never seen one.. well in a picture, not in my cages... i guess it's kind of waxy looking and white

They got along just fine. I kept the male inside his cage and my females jumped up to the side oh his cage and the warbled a bit and muzzled eachother. But i don't think I'm gonna let them play together. Thank you jmdebb

No they mate in a flash so I wouldn't
And yes sometimes you'll notice a mushey white discharge for the female and her slit will open. Many of them are good at keeping clean, so it's usually young females you see this with.
Got a call from a new owner the other day freaked cause she saw the discharge and the 6 month old had it smeared on one of the shelves.
I can tell when mine are in heat because the males get all antsy.  ::nod::

hmm. i might actually keep this boy. He is a ebony, but i dont know any of his carriers. My females are dark grey/ebony, and a light grey/sapphire. might get some good kits.

I would not let them play together even if they get along. When she is in season she will drop a heat plug, a white waxy thing. You have to carefully look for it and you often miss it. The male will start getting excited if kept in the same room and he may start making a cooing noise.

If you want to keep that boy without getting kits, why don't you choose to desex the boy and form a triad? Or you want to breed them rather than bond them??

I have 3 big cages and enough time to spare to give them the proper attention they need. This male is a snuggle buddy, he doesn't move around too much at all. Right now, my 2 fems are in one cage and the male is alone. I'm not sure on what I want to do yet.
