Title: Black Velvet ebony carrier...whats the value?
Post by: chinclub on October 06, 2006, 07:23:25 PM
I'm trying to sell a lot of my chinchillas and some of them I am just having a lot of trouble pricing.  I'm not sure what the going price would be.  Has anyone seen a Black Velvet (Ebony Carrier) for sale anywhere?  What do you think it would be worth.  Would its white belly make it more valuable or would the fact that it will produce grey bellied babies make it less valuable??   ::think::  How much would you ask?  What would you expect to pay??

by the way, here is a picture:

You have to think past the "dirty belly" ... that "dirty belly" (with ebony in the background) means it is an ebony carrier which would make it just below/=to a hetero ebony.  Anyone intrested in ebony and/or raps would consider it a + not a minus.
I would not expect to pay less than $250 and closer to $300 to $350 for it, especially if this one has the background I think it has.  if it has good fur and bone structure (which it looks like it does).  What is it's age & weight?  Male or female?
If you ranch run and it is a male, you could put it with an ebony, a white, a standard, a violet, a tan or a beige and have some interesting possibilities.  (That is, if all are strong, healthy and good size ... which should be a given in any run.  Other wise, put it with a big blocky standard.)
If you have a ranch run or singles ... just pair it up with one that would hopefully give you the best odds of what you would like to produce. Or put it with a big blocky standard and use the kits produced to mix with mutations.

Most of the breeders that have price charts that I have seen add on from $30-50.00 for and eb carrier. I was at a cliaming show last year, and this topic was came up during the judging of the  Vevets. The Chin had conformation, veiling, color hue, size, and fur quality of a 1st Black vevlet. The chin did not place because of the dirty belly. The jugde did say the chin would make a great addition to a ebony breeding program. The chin sold for $210. It was a cute lil chin.

If the chin is show quality and going into a breeding program, I would ask no less the $225.00 if its a female upwards of 275.00. If the chin has Sta. in its immediate background you could ask for more. With the Stn. being in the immediate background you inable the breeder you sell too, to pair with different mutes. and maintain the highest quality.

This chinchilla is an absolute beauty.  I bought him from Ralph Shoots.  I'm just not into Ebony enough to keep him.  I bought him to breed specifically for Black Velvet so I have no use for his grey bellied babies. He is a proven breeder though and all of his babies have been very dark veiled right from birth.  He would certainly be a great value to an ebony line.

I have an ebony tov, I payed a little more for him.  ::nod::
I base my prices this way, standards, {base price},colors a little more, and ebonies/wraps a little more.
If I don't think it to be wise to use said chin in breeding I drop the price.
Figures are hard to give with us living all over the world.
They are only worth what someone is willing to pay in your area.
That's what we say about antiques. ::nod::

::silly::I was pretty sure that was from the Shoots line.   ::nod::  If no one else is willing to pay a good price for him ($250+), I'll get him from you at the show in Rock Hill ... of course I will have to hide him so Bill won't know I got another chin.   :D  Is he kin to Mixer (the other TOV ebony I got from you)?

::silly::  Don't think I will be able to get him ... Bill said either I come home from the show ... or a new chin comes home ... not enough room for both.   ::)

I really do not need any new chins ... no more room to put them.  I would have to start hanging them by their tails to make room for more.   rofl   Just kidding!  But, I really do need to adopt some out rather than get any more.
