Title: Building my own cage
Post by: LeviStout12 on April 15, 2014, 09:54:38 AM
Hey guys,I have one female chinchy that's about 10 weeks old.. i have been thinking about building my own cage, i was wondering what type of wood i should use?
How big should i make it? (i live in an apartment, so nothing extravagant) If i could get some helpful tips or pictures on how to make it suitable for her that she would enjoy staying in. Thanks :)

Typically chinchilla cages with wooden frames use white pine. If you use wood be very careful they do not chew through it in a way that affects the design of the cage or they may get injured or escape. The ideal chinchilla cage is all metal and will have a metal pan at the bottom. A wooden cage floor will not work because it will soak up the urine and mold posing a threat to your animals. I'm not really an expert on cage design other than I have built a small cage using construction cloth and hardware designed for making cages out of it.
