Health / Re: Loose Fur
« on: May 13, 2008, 05:42:42 PM »
you know, i bought my first chinchilla because i read that they don't shed.  thats a total lie!  they shed soooo much.  i always pick the lose fur off my chins, to make them look perfect, but i have to do it quickly because it annoys them.

you could get a professional set of chinchilla combs.  hat would help get all the lose fur out - and some chins actually like to be combed.

She lies on her back and grabs them, there's no better way of saying this, fresh and eats them in front of us. Such a lady, not. :D

She lies on her back while she does it!?!   rofl

hey cool!  good work  ::nod::

the only thing now is like you're gonna be wanting to go to sleep or go out, but he really wants to play.  You're like "I need to go to sleep now" and he's gonna be like "No wait please play with me i want to stay with you no don't go wait stop don't why are you doing this to me?!?!?" *reaching for you with his short funny arms and looking at you with big black eyes*  while you lock him in his cage.   :2funny:

all in all though, it's really rewarding when your chin wants to be held.

My favorite tool for keeping my living room tidy is the Shark Sweeper.  I think it costs about $50 but it is sooooo worth it.  It picks up poop and hay better than any other vacuum cleaner I've ever owned.  It also doesn't get clogged from the hay.    I highly recommend it.  Cage guards can only do so much.

Oh, absolutely.  Thats a great idea.  If anyone would like to send me photos of their chinchillas to be touched up for printing on shirts, cards, whatever, just let me know.  You can see some of my graphics work (everything is slowly getting updated, lol) at www.cafepress.com/chinsinhats.
Thanks for the suggestion Beth  ;)

Best,
Missy

General Chat / Re: I have the smartest chinchilla in the world!
« on: April 17, 2008, 09:14:53 AM »
 rofl your chinchilla is so smart!

I did have a thought though....maybe she is bored, and obviously doesn't want to be caged.  My white chin would spend hours gnawing on his cage bars, which I interpreted as bordom and frustration about be locked up.

 I gave my white chin a porch so he can move freely in and out of his cage, but it's elevated so he won't jump down.  He barely ever chews the cage bars now.  He seems so content when he's on his porch - like he doesn't have to escape because he has freedom already (even though we're just tricking him)

Also, since your chin is so smart, you should channel that intelligence into learning tricks!  I bet you could condition her to learn all sorts of really cute stuff.  I'll be waiting for some video footage!   ::silly::

General Chat / Chinchilla greeting cards, stickers, shirts, etc.
« on: April 16, 2008, 11:28:57 AM »
I just opened up an account with CafePress which will offer chinchilla greeting cards, bumper stickers, clothes, etc. with really cute pictures on them.  I mainly set up the account because a few people have asked about greeting cards with the famous birthday picture  rofl

I think that Hallmark's version of the card does not do the picture justice!  It took 80 shots before I got the perfect photo, and Hallmark just cropped out Newie's tail and shrunk down my hard work to a size you can barely see!

So anyway, my store is www.cafepress.com/chinsinhats       I chose cafepress because I've heard many good things about them, including fast shipping, good customer service and high quality stuff.  I'm still in the process of cleaning up the photos, but I have a few good ones ready for shirts.  The birthday card is finished and ready if anyone is still interested in that.

All my graphics (the completed ones anyway) are very high quality; they don't look like cookie cut-outs of chinchillas, they still look fuzzy around the edges and they still have whiskers.  However, the backgrounds are transparent so it doesn't look like a photo pasted onto a shirt.  I can do custom photos, custom captions, whatever you want, just let me know.  Or if you like one of my photos, let me know so I can prioritize the list of photos I need to clean up. My uncle is a professional graphic designer, so I learned from the best.

I tried to keep the prices down - I only make like 50 cents per item, but I enjoy what I do and I want everyone to share the joy that I feel when I see my wonderful pets.  All proceeds will be going toward my vet school fund! (I want to be a small animal specialist).

So check out my store  www.cafepress.com/chinsinhats     and feel free to contact me about anything.

General Chat / How smart are Chinchillas?
« on: April 12, 2008, 01:37:41 PM »
I often wonder how smart chinchillas are.  Honestly, sometimes I'm really disappointed when I call to them and they try to come through the cage bars rather than using the door.  And I know that they know where the cage doors are!

But I was pleasantly surprised when Newie learned how to open the lid to his jar of almond treats.

See it for yourself

Keep voting!  And spread the word, tell everyone you know who loves chinchillas!  (Move over cats and dogs, it's time for small furry animals to have a chance!)

Also, here is the link in case you don't have it

We really need everyone on the forums to vote, maybe set this as a global announcement so everyone can see and maybe vote? :-)

I'm still new to using forums and stuff.  What is a global announcement and how can I set one up?

Thank you for voting!!!   ::silly::
