Title: strong urine odor
Post by: chinpizza on September 10, 2009, 10:24:55 PM
I've been noticing that one of my chinchillas seems to have a strong odor problem. I don't believe its the cage as I change it twice weekly with daily spot cleanings. Also, the smell seems strongest actually on her, not as bad in the cage. I know chinchillas aren't supposed to smell like this, and it's really a mystery because my other chin doesn't have this problem at all. The pee from the one with the problem looks normal though and so do her genitals.
Does anyone know what this could be a sign of, if anything?
How serious could it be and what should I do?

Thanks!

::silly::  Sounds like there's a good possibility or a urinary tract infection or a uterine infection, I would see a vet a.s.a.p.
Anytime a chinchilla's urine or feces has a foul odor, it's not good.

:blush2:  In some cases, when a female goes in season, a person with a very sensitive nose can smell the difference, but most do not.

When the feces/poop has a very foul odor, it is often the sign of much worse problems.
