Title: is bonding going ok?
Post by: Rachael29 on May 13, 2015, 08:02:45 AM
Hi Guys,
So We have had our chins for about 2 and a half weeks now.
They seem to recognise their names more now. I'm sure they are getting used to their routine now (play time and such).
when they are out the use us as human climbing frames  :::grins::. I have held both of them when they were at the vet and they sat very well, I was very proud of them. I have since picked up Onyx when he was down stairs and refused to go back in his cage after play time  ::silly::. he struggled a bit then calmed down. They will both sniff our hands and occasionally jump on our hands.

Just looking for opinions, do you think the process is going good?
Also any tips on being able to hold them or get more contact with them?

Thanks

it sounds like you have very happy chins! they have obviously learnt to trust you very early on which means you are doing everything right. having a routine and spending lots of time with them like you appear to be doing will do wonders for their bond with you. carry on doing what you are doing, it sounds like you have done your research which is lovely! haha

I pet them and scratch them in their cage quite often, I'll open the door of their cage and play with them as well and let them climb on me. I'll let them sit on me when I am on the computer on occasion and I'll let them ride on my shoulder (although use EXTREME caution if you try this). I'll also tease them with rolls of paper or wood chews through the bars. Most chinchillas like to interact but not always during the day when they are trying to sleep but sometimes if I wake them up they'll play.

See I've tried several times to scratch their chins but they don't like it I don't think they physically push me away lol do all chins like their chins scratched? Also is their anywhere else they enjoy being scratched or peted?
