Title: age?
Post by: chinridge on July 04, 2013, 06:00:32 PM
I got a new chinchilla from a guy who could no longer care for him. He said Barnaby(my chinchilla) is between 3 and 6 how can I tell for sure?

You can't really tell. They are full grown at one year and pretty much weigh the same until their geriatric years.

@GrayRodent, don't some mutations reach full size later? Like the ebony?

Yes it is true that mutation coloration can slow the growth rate down. I've heard some will not reach their full weight until closer to two years but they are still pretty much fully grown after 12 months. At three years I would not expect to see any weight gain from growing.
