Title: Question about my pregnant chinchilla! urgent!
Post by: amonterrojas on February 17, 2014, 11:28:24 PM
Is it okay to let my chinchilla lulu out of her cage to exercise? she tends to jump around every where and I'm worried this will have a negative effect on the pregnancy and her kits.

No it won't have a negative effect unless you handle her wrong. It is usually advised to minimize handing of pregnant chinchillas, especially closer to term, as putting pressure on the abdomen can cause serious damage to the female and the kits. So if you think that is going to be a problem you'll just have to leave her in there since some chinchillas are not easy to handle at all. If she lives in a decently sized cage leaving her in should not be a problem for her although she'll be healthier if she keeps her usual routine.

Of course letting her out requires that she is put into an area that is safe for chinchillas meaning no open toilets, no cords to chew on, no dangerous things to chew on, get lost in, or get stuck in, etc.
