OK, he rolled once and that's it. He's sleeping now, but how do I get him to dust?

General Chat / Starting to bond . . .

So, this morning Gizmo took a raisin right out of my hand for the first time! He is such a cutie! I've only had him since Saturday, and he's already showing signs of bonding. It feels good that he's learning to trust me! ;) ;) ::chinhappy::

Yes, he had hay. There was still a little bit left in his bowl, but he decided to flip it over! Made me laugh, because when I woke up, he was standing on it as if to say, "Hey, ma, I'm out of food! Pay attention to me!" He's too cute, and he's already starting to trust me. If I offer him a raisin he will come up to me and take it. I guess that's the best way to tame them. He's a good boy, and he is SPOILED!

Q & A / Re: Questions Deciphering Chinchilla Sounds
« on: July 23, 2014, 04:51:50 AM »
This is so funny: I played some of the sounds in the link provided above, and Gizmo's ears perked up and he was really listening! I determined that the sounds he is making are "baby cries," and considering that he's only 4 months old, this makes sense! He was probably weened too early, and that's why he makes this sound. Thank you for verifying that for me!

OK, good. He eats constantly! Actually, this morning when I woke up, his food dish was apparently empty, so he flipped it over and stood on it until I fed him! I thought that was SO cute!

He's 4 months old, but I've seen him in the pet store for the past month. He is now eating, drinking, and pooping adequately. I figured that the sooner I started handling him, the quicker he would bond to me. I'll leave him alone for a week, just as you suggested, with limited interaction through the cage. Thank you for the advice!

Q & A / Need some advice on my new chin
« on: July 22, 2014, 03:00:34 AM »
Hi! I'm a new chin owner, and I'm having a few problems. First off, I've had Gizmo for 3 days, and he seems to cry when I try to introduce new toys to him. Is this normal when they are scared? I called my vet about it, and she said that it was NOT normal for them to cry when afraid, but I think they are just trying to get me to pay for emergency services, because the books that I have read all confirm that it is normal. Second, I'm having a hard time getting Gizmo to drink out of a water bottle. He did it a couple of times this morning, but this is the first time (at least in my presence) that I've seen him do it. Is there an easier way to get him used to it? And finally, what is the best way to introduce new toys to him? He was so scared when I put his wheel in for the first time! I don't want to stress him out!
