Health / My Male was attacked by his mate, need advice!
« on: October 26, 2010, 09:55:25 AM »
Hey everyone,

I am having great difficulty finding a Vet here that does chinchilla care.  2 nights ago, my male was attacked by his mate.  I don't know if she went into heat or what but she chewed up his ear pretty good and there is a small cut above his eye.  I had an antibiotic ointment that I used when she did this a couple of years ago that I got from my vet in Denver but that is long gone.  Is there an over the counter ointment that is safe?

Thanks for the advice!

The white has black eyes and is a total spitfire!  We named her Shelby.  One beige has a white "mowhawk" on her tail.  The other beige has a very silky and smooth coat.  They are very sweet and doing great!  Send me a message if you are interested.  Adoption fee is negotiable!

Other Pets / My Kitty Ricochet Has Lost Her Sight
« on: March 23, 2010, 05:59:20 AM »
So, I had suspected for some time that my 17 year old kitty was going blind.  I noticed that her eyes always stay dialated and look kinda cloudy.  Well, the other day, she walked face first into the wall.  I took her to the vet and they said she had cataracts and if we couldn't afford the really expensive surgery, we should put her down.  I asked if she was in pain and he said no.  So, I said thanks for your oppionion and took her home.  She eats fine, finds her litter box fine, and finds her bed just fine.  I want her with me as long as possible but don't want to be selfish!  Did I make the right decision?

Thanks!

General Chat / 2 Of My Babies Have Been Adopted
« on: February 08, 2010, 06:57:21 AM »
Hi everyone!

Well, 2 of my kits have been adopted.  I was hoping that not giving them names this go round would make it easier, but it didn't!  I was so sad to see them go.  But on the bright side, they went to really good homes and people that really wanted them.  One lady was from Anderson, SC and a huge Clemson fan, yuck!, Go Carolina!  Her team short comings aside, she is just totally in love with him and he did really good on the trip.  He is so social that he is already taking treats from her hand and sitting on her shoulder.  I guess that's a testimate to my socialization skills!  LOL, not really, just play with them alot.  My little girl went to a really nice young couple.  They had been doing their research for almost a year before commiting.  I was impressed by that and the fact that when I quizzed them, they got the answers right!

So, I still have one little pink white boy.  Gonna love him extra hard till he finds a home!

Chit Chat / Real life ghost stories...Anyone have one to share??
« on: January 30, 2010, 07:59:40 AM »
Note from ChinClub::  This topic was split from another thread since it became such an interesting topic.  Because it was split some comments were left behind which is why the first few posts read weird.

Alot of people won't belive this one but here goes:  When we had our old apartment in Denver (built in the 40's) we had a ghost that visited our apartment very often.  There were numerous times I would hear my Chinchilla's barking and go in to see what was up and the ghost would be standing in front of their cage.  Our "haunting" started shortly after a 90 year old lady that lived in the building died.  She had lived there for like 40 years and was a huge animal lover.  She often visited tenants in the building that had pets.  She seemed to really like the chinchilla's and would appear in front of their cage alot.  And ofcourse, when she did, the chinchilla's would start barking like crazy.  Like I said, alot of people won't believe it but yes it happened.  Even my partner, who is a big burly guy, would freak.  We even had people move cause it freaked them out.  LOL, can't say it really bothered me that much except for it catching me off guard.

General Chat / I Found A Fantastic Food Bowl
« on: January 27, 2010, 09:12:56 AM »
I have gone thru quite a few different food dishes for my chinnies.  I wanted something heavy that they couldn't turn over without much luck.  However, last week, I was at William Sanoma and found this great ceramic baking dish that works fantastic!  No chewing, no turning over, and they don't seem to scatter the food much anymore!  This is a picture below:

Chit Chat / Praying Hard For Good Luck!
« on: January 22, 2010, 03:03:04 PM »
Long story short, we moved across country wanting to be near family getting older.  Also, want to be able to buy a house, something we could never have done in Denver.  My partner does Hotel Management and was woooed pretty hard by this hotel here in Charlotte.  So, no surprise, he got the job and the salary he wanted.  He shows up on his first day and the GM quit.  All of the management is apparently new and don't have any experience in that hotel brand.  He's the only one and he is highly trained.  He was always off to Los Angeles and such for meetings and training, not to mention working for that brand for almost 20 years now.

The hotel itself is a disaster.  They are really close to losing their branding license, no one knows what they are doing, and the owners seem to want to do as little as possible to keep the hotel afloat.  This is a nightmare scenario for my sweetie and he's so unhappy.  He is so depressed every morning when he walks out the door and it breaks my heart knowing there is nothing I can do.

So, taking a shot in the dark, he decided to contact another hotel here that is of the same brand but at a much higher level.  He has wanted to work for this more high end part of the brand for some time.  They had a listing for a supervisor position that he's way over qualified for but he just wants out you know?  Well, they called today and want to interview him tomorrow for a MANAGEMENT POSITION and not a supervisor position!  I have been praying hard all day and will continue thru the night and into tomorrow until the interview is over.

Send us all your good vibes and say a prayer if you can!  He needs this really bad.  He may have been able to tough it out in his younger years but we are getting older and can't do those things anymore!  Thanks for lending me your ear!

General Chat / Wild Chinchilla's?
« on: January 14, 2010, 03:53:48 PM »
I was reading a few random websites and one of them said that Chinchilla's were no longer in the wild.  Is that true?  Just curious!   ::shrug::

General Chat / Pictures of My 6 Week Old Triplets (Finally)
« on: January 12, 2010, 06:25:20 PM »
Sorry it took so long!  With the move and everything, I haven't taken as many pictures as I usally do.  The babies were born on December 3rd.

Little Boy:  All white
Little Boy:  White with beige markings (super smart one, he can figure it all out and teach the others!)
Little Girl:  Beige

They will be available in a few weeks!  We are in the Charlotte, NC area.  Dad is a standard grey and came from a breeder in Arvada Colorado.  Mom is a pink white and came from a breeder in Toranado Kansas.

They are super sweet, love their treats, and running in their wheel.  My chinchilla's are from the Denver area and not from local herds.  I can send pictures if you are interested.  $125.00 each.  Mom & Dad are personal pets and on site.

General Chat / The Move Went Great!
« on: January 06, 2010, 06:45:34 AM »
Well, thanks for all of your tips on moving.  Mom, Dad, and the babies did really well driving across country.  They were so excited when they were put back in their big cage and played for hours!  The move was really hard on us.  The rental truck was a nightmare and having to drive 14 hours a day over 2 days was very hard but we made it to Charlotte in tact.  We are very happy to be here and getting settled in.  Thanks again to all of you and have a great new year!

General Chat / Moving Suggestions?
« on: December 23, 2009, 08:09:57 AM »
Hey everyone!

We will be moving soon from Denver, CO to Charlotte, NC.  Do you have any tips for making this trip as stress free as possible for my Chinchillas?

Thanks!
