Other Pets / my alpacas before and after pictures
« on: May 07, 2011, 03:41:48 PM »
I couldn't put the picture here because the file was to big but if you go to photo gallery you will see the pictures of my two alpacas. They sure do look strange.

OK, we have this 13 year old pom that has kidney failure, and he is very fussy about his food :noway:. He doesn't like it . I have been force feeding him with a syringe since December . Lately he has been interested when I get his food out but when I put it down for him to sniff and he backs off. So today I put little pieces of chicken in the food and he ate the chicken around the k/d food. So I'm hopping that someone here might have some better ideas ::think::. I would like for him to eat the k/d on his own because I know he is getting sick of me putting the syringe in his mouth. Also he doesn't really like the dry k/d dog food. We are trying to get him to gain weight, he went from 14 pounds down to 6 in a few months. I hope some one has had the same problem and found away around it. It is very annoying. But he is our little fighter. Mom say at lest we don't have to worry about him ripping our arms out of our sockets (you know Chewy from Star Wars) :2funny: ::).  Thank you

Health / luffas
« on: February 25, 2011, 03:29:34 PM »
I was wondering if anyone has grown their own luffa for their chins? I want to try growing some this year and I thought I would ask and see if anyone had done it first. I looked on the forum to see if anyone had asked this and didn't find any. I thought since they liked the twigs I would try that. I hope you all have a good weekend.

Other Pets / knit sweaters for ferrets
« on: February 03, 2011, 08:54:04 AM »
I was wondering if anyone owns ferrets and knows how to knit, or if anyone has made sweaters for their ferrets? I was thinking of alpaca fiber sweaters for the ferrets. So if anyone has made any what type of design did you do?

General Chat / I got a new chinchilla
« on: February 01, 2011, 06:26:33 PM »
If there is any mistakes on the post it is because our 14 year old American Eskimo died today ::cry222:::. I had gotten this 8 month old chinchilla and I was told he was a Mosaic. He is very friendly, I have a picture of him but it was to big for this, so I put it in photo gallery, he name is Flynn, as in Tron's Flynn. The picture turned out dark, but he is a light tan with reddish eyes. I'll try another picture later. I have him away from the others, I'm hopping to have him up with the other chinchillas next week. Thank you

General Chat / A chinchilla in next years pokemon black and white games
« on: October 04, 2010, 08:00:07 AM »
Hi,
My nephew was looking up the new Pokemon black and white games and found that they are going to have a chinchilla Pokemon called chillarmy. I don't know if that will be the English name for it or what. But it was sure cute looking.

Evening all,
This fall I'm going to trim our mulberry tree back, and it's about 5 years old. The branches are still thin on it, it's never been sprayed with bug spray. I was wondering if I could use the thin ones for chin treats? I remember someone doing their own apple tree limbs but I could not find the topic. Thanks for the help, Shannon

Hi,
I was cleaning the shelves in the girls cage and I noticed that there was red spots on the shelve. So at first I thought it was dried strawberries that I gave them yesterday, but I looked at Pooka's feet and saw what looked like she pulled the callus on bottom of her foot. It looks like when you have a spilt on the bottom of your foot.  It's doesn't look that bad, also I was wondering what to put on it? Should she have a dust bath with that?  For now I will use nenosporen on it. Thank you for your help. Shannon

Hi,
I was looking at the Persian chins and it had on there non north American buyers only. So does that mean that I can't buy one if I wanted to? I would like to own one but I don't have that type of money. Is there any breeders that sell them here in the US to us?
Thank you Shannon

Health / I might be getting a new chinchilla.
« on: February 24, 2010, 02:03:26 PM »
Hi all,
I'm looking into buying a female chinchilla, she might be pregnant. I have a cage all ready to go. How long should I keep her away from my other chinchillas? She will be put into a room by herself. The owner said he was giving a male and female so they are together right now. He wants to sell them a separately. He also said she might be pregnant. So I was thinking of getting the female and after her quarantine start letting the females get used to each other and HOPE that after a while they get along. I have stuff that I didn't need to use after Pooka had her kit. So I just need to get a tube for her. I would like to have her and let her have a nice life with me. No more breeding for her. Thanks Shannon

Hi All,
Back in either 1990 or 1991 Mount spur blew and we got hit with volcanic ash. That was a BIG mess ::07yikes::. Anyway we saved some ash and then sent some to family here in WI, now that my grandparents are gone we have extra ash. So I was wondering if the chins could use it? If not, out to the garden it goes. We took it off our front porch and we used a broom to sweep it up.  Thanks Shannon

Q & A / buying from chinchillas.com estore?
« on: January 19, 2010, 09:48:57 AM »
Hi,
I was wondering if any one has bought chin things from chinchillas.com E store? I don't know if they are good to buy from. The pet shop that I buy the oxbow chinchilla food from is 16.00 bucks for a 5 pound bag of food ::shrug::. The guy that owns it raised chinchillas, so his shop is very good. But its the pricing that is a bit much for me right now. 3 chinchillas go through 5 pounds very quickly. Have a good day, Shannon

Q & A / vitakraft vitaverde natural sticks with parsley
« on: July 26, 2009, 08:55:12 AM »
OK, I was at the pet shop get some garlic tabs for our dogs and I saw the vitakraft package and saw that it had parsley in it. I thought that I had read that parsley is OK for chinchillas. The chins do love it and I wanted to ask before I bought any more if it was true. It has for it's ingredients, wheat flour, turnip seed, wheat, dehydrated parsley leaves, rice, barley, buckwheat, corn starch, calcium, carbonate, honey, vegetable oil, vitamin A,D,E,B12 supplement, riboflavin and niacin supplement, pyridoxine hydrochloride, choline chloride,d-calcium pantothenate, and biotin.
Crude protein (min) 9.5%, crude fat (min) 4.0%, crude fiber (max) 14.0%, moisture (max) 14.0%, vitamin a (min) 3250 IU/lb, vitamin d(min) 325 IU/lb, Vitamin e (min) 29 IU/lb.
So that's what it has, so I hope that it OK to feed to them.
Thanks Shannon
