Q & A / Cage under window
« on: December 02, 2008, 10:08:51 PM »
Hi, I'v read that it is not good to have chins under a window. My problem is that right now, thats the only place I have to put the cage. Is that ok to have the cage under the window for now? I'm going to find another place before it gets warm. I keep the blinds closed for the most part. If i have them open, I put a towel over their cage so they don't get direct sunlit.

Thanks  :)

Health / Lose of fur
« on: December 02, 2008, 09:59:43 PM »
Hi, I'm a new owner. I have two baby chins, both about 2 months old. The gray one is pogo, I got him first. The white one is snowie. Before I got snowie, Pogo liked to take dust baths more often, that now. The other day I noticed some of hims fur in the cage. He doesn't like to be held, but from looking at him, it looks like he has some paches of hair missing on him. Should I be worried? Is it just stress from having another chin? They get together pretty well.

I am also in the process of getting different food. There food now has pellets and fruit treats in it. I'm waiting for better food to come in the mail. I had also been giving pogo a raisin or 2 a day, that was how I got him in his cage. As of today, I'v stopped giving him treats. I was advsed to wait till they are 6 months to do that.

Thanks!

General Chat / Chins playing together
« on: December 02, 2008, 02:37:56 PM »
I recently got a new chin. I'm not sure if this is normal behavior or not. The chin, pogo that I had first, will 'hump' the chin, snowie. Is that normal. They are both male babies. When they chase each other, are the playing? :) They will eat and sleep together.

Q & A / How much food to give my baby chins?
« on: December 02, 2008, 12:28:16 PM »
I'm a new chin owner. I'v been reading different things about how much chins can have to eat. Should I always keep their food bowl full? Or should I messure it out, like the back of my food bag says 2TBS and to only leave enough food in there for 4 to 6 hrs at a time? I'v also read that baby chins should only eat 1 tbs a day of food.

General Chat / IS a tin can a safe toy
« on: December 01, 2008, 06:12:47 PM »
I was reading in a blog today that an owner puts a big glass jar in the cage and their chins love to play with it and sleep in it. I don't have a big enoiugh glass jar, but I do have tin cans. I was wandering if that would be safe to put in the cage.  ;)

« on: December 01, 2008, 05:05:52 PM »
Hi, I'm from Ohio. Is anyone else here from Ohio? I am a new chin owner. I love my two male baby chins. One is gray, pogo and the other one is white, snowie. I'v had snowie for a few days and i'd had pogo for about 2 and a half weeks. Pogo likes to explore alot. I try to chin proof my room, but he always finds a way around something. Snowie is still shy. He hasn't explored much yet. This website has been soo helpful for me. Everyone here is really nice. I have made an album if anyone would like to check it out.

Q & A / Things to buy for chins
« on: December 01, 2008, 01:33:46 PM »
Hi, I am a new chin owner. I am thinking of buy things from longe star chinchilla. I was wandering if anyone on here used it and what things you liked from there. I currently don't have hay for my two baby chins, pogo and snowie. I read on the chin club website that they should have hay. In the cage I only have one type of chew toy. They are lava bits. The food I am using now has pellets and fruit treats. I also read that chins should have food without treats. I was going to switch their food and mix the cald manna and the mazuri together with some of the food they are eating now. Below I have a list of things I was thinking about getting.

Sample Timothy Hay Cakes
Sample Apple Twigs
Sample Compressed Alfalfa Hay Cube
Sample Calf Manna
1 LB MAZURI CHINCHILLA PELLETS
1 Fruit Flavored Bitty Bite ( on website said it was free)
Enter FREE Giveaway Here!(free on webite)
8 oz Christmas Stocking Cookies
TAKE $3.00 OFF YOUR ORDER!

On there websit, they also had Flavored Salt Spools. I wasn't sure if those would be good to get also.

THANKS!

General Chat / Personality of my white chin, Snowie
« on: December 01, 2008, 11:50:09 AM »
I just got a baby white male chin. His personality is a lot different than my baby gray one, pogo I have. The woman at the pet store called the white one  a 'fancy' chin. I wasn't so sure what she meant by that.  Snowie is alot more calm than pogo and he is really vocal and the food he doesn't like, he just throws it next to the food dish. Is that normal. Should I try different food?

« on: December 01, 2008, 11:22:54 AM »
I am a new chinchilla owner, I have two baby chinchillas, One is gray and the other one is white. I was wondering if they need to eat hay to stay healthy. Also, Neither of my chins like the yogurt drops and only pogo, the gray one likes raisins. What treats should I give Snowie, the white one. He seems to be a picky eater.  ???

Health / New chinchilla owner, I have questions
« on: November 30, 2008, 10:12:16 PM »
Hi, I am a new member and I have two male chinchillas. I have a baby gray one I got about 3 weeks ago and a baby white one I got a few days ago. I was wondering if Chinchillas can have a dust bath too often? The gray one likes to take one about every other day. The white one hasn't wanted to take one yet.

Also, the white one is a picky eater and doesn't eat all the food. He throws out the pieces he doesn't like. Is that normal. He also likes to eat the bedding. Is that ok?

I also wasn't sure what some good toys were for them.

Thanks for your help.

P.S. I'm not sure what I was supposed to put for the options at the top of this post.
