Guestbook / Hello!
« on: October 15, 2013, 09:38:55 PM »
My name is Nina and my baby's name is Biscuit.

I am a first time chinchilla owner however I have owned guinea pigs in the past. I've had Biscuit for a couple of months and I love him to pieces. I am trying to be the best mom I can be to ensure a happy and healthy life for him. I love learning about how to be a good owner and about chinchillas as an animal.

He is such a sweetheart and I enjoy him more everyday and his little quirks.

This seems like a great community and I am excited to be involved. :)

Health / Soft (sticky) Poops
« on: October 15, 2013, 09:24:27 PM »
My chinchilla, Biscuit, has been having soft sticky-ish poops the past couple of days. They are still a dark, normal color and normal pellet shape and consistent size. Not runny, just soft (if he steps on one it will smoosh). They have been sticking to his ledges, wheel, and even his fur. It almost looks like there are parts of raisins in them that may be causing the stickiness. I never give him more than 2 raisins a day and lately I have only been giving one in the mornings. If I do give a second its in the evenings. Anyone have any ideas what this may be from? Could it be the raisins? Are there certain raisins that are better than others?? I just don't want it to become a bigger problem or have Biscuit get sick because of it.  :-\

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

General Chat / My Chin is acting CRAZY! PLEASE HELP!!
« on: September 04, 2013, 08:53:34 PM »
I got my Chin about three weeks ago from a pet store (I know that's not the ideal place to get one). I did a lot of research about how to bond with a new chin, how to get him acclimated, food, etc. And honestly it had been going well. He was walking out from his cage to me, letting me pet him and feed him. Everything had been going great and I was feeling like the bonding process was moving quickly.

And then today it came to a squealing halt. We had been giving him store bought treats, and then had stopped for a few days, I introduced him to one today and he went NUTS! I saw him on the floor of my room and realized he sneaked out of the cage by crawling between the side wires! I am unsure what to do and if these treats are the cause of his madness. I had joked before that it was like a cat with catnip but I am afraid it is much worse than that. Now it seems like all he wants to do is get out of his cage.

I want him to be happy and comfortable in his home and only want what's best for him. But he is my first Chin so I am not familiar with behaviors and what to do.

Any suggestions or ideas would be GREATLY appreciated.
