Q & A / Re: Pregnant chins?
« on: April 29, 2014, 07:11:13 PM »
I've never noticed them before and my male has been in the cage with both females. I can't tell if she looks bigger because she is the biggest of all of them. She's about 4 years old.

Q & A / Pregnant chins?
« on: April 29, 2014, 06:33:36 PM »
This may seem like a stupid question but do female chins teats only show elongated when pregnant? Or are they always like that. I have a female who just had kits and I never noticed them til she had them and was nursing. I've read that they show like this before the mother gets ready to nurse.
I'm not asking for the one who just gave birth but for my other female. She usually is very timid but has started being more cuddly. While playing with her tonight I felt something on her underside and upon examination it was teats....I'm lost lol

General Chat / Re: Chilly acted different last night

That makes sense. I don't think he was talking to the baby cuz we have this fleece cylinder that he can go in and he was in there and mama was snuggled up with him. I have heard chilly and baby Zūk talk back and forth though. He is very attentive to what is going on in the cage next to him with tiny and Zūk. Occasionally I hold Zūk up to chilly and they just smell each other and talk no aggression at all. He's only a week old but amazes me with all his energy. He did have a sister but sadly Lucy passed around 3 days. Thanks for the info. I really do appreciate it. This is my first experience with kits so I'm glad there's a place to find answers.

I suppose he could be missing tiny because since she had the babies I haven't had him with her but in the cage beside her. When is a good time to reintroduce him in with her and the baby?

That's possible I guess but this has been the only time he has done it. I'm sure nothing was wrong because he sounded happy with his lil chirping he always does. My husband and I joke around because sometimes we will be talking and chilly chirps loudly like he's laughing at us.

So my chinnys are usually not too loud at night however last night chilly my male was bouncing around the cage like he was on a sugar high. He hasn't had any treats just the usually pellets hay and alfalfa cubes. He also was very vocal all night. I kept checking on him but it was more playful sounds like laughing and chirping like he does with the others.

I'm not sure why just wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions.

New Births / Re: Tiny had 2 kits this am

We nursed her til the end but I think something was internally wrong.

Baby Zūk however is very healthy and strong.

Memorials / RIP lil Lucy

Our lil Lucy was born 4/19/2014 and she fought hard to stay alive but I believe now she is in a better place. I honestly believe something was internally wrong with her but I'm glad she isn't in any more pain. She will be missed.

Yes I made sure the bar spacing Is good. I think the father got ahold of one of them before we noticed she even had them. It's ok but it seems now that the female kit isn't finding the nipple to feed

We have been thinking my female was pregnant for the past week because she's been laying on her side allllll the time. Made an appt to have her checked out but this morning she gave birth to the cutest lil kits. I immediately took my male out of the cage. I am beyond excited right now. This is my first experience with kits.

Any advice??

Q & A / Re: Picky eaters?
« on: March 02, 2014, 06:43:19 AM »
Thank you both for your advice and I am def going to try straight pellets to see if they will eat. Like I said they still get their hay and alfalfa cubes. I know they can be stubborn but I will let you know how it goes.

When I got the first one they were feeding him everything and I tried just pellets for a while but he wouldn't eat I have found some of the oxbow and have ordered it so it shouldn't be long before it gets here.
The other two sisters had been fed straight rabbit mix before I got them which I didn't agree with so that's why I was mixing it to kinda ween them off of it , like I said I haven't had the sisters very long at all.
Thanks again!!  :)

Supreme Charlie Chinchilla Dry Food
Kaytee Fiesta Food for Chinchillas
Kaytee Timothy Complete Chinchilla Food
Carefresh Complete Menu Chinchilla Food
And another off brand from a local pet store.

Nothing works for them they pic everything out and leave the pellets.
If I give them just pellets they won't eat it at all.

Q & A / Picky eaters?
« on: February 28, 2014, 06:30:05 AM »
Ok so my chinchillas absolutely REFUSE to eat pellets. They throw them out instead of eating them. I have started mixing chinchilla food with rabbit foot (1/2&1/2) still they will eat everything but the pellets. They also have their hay and sometimes their alfalfa cubes and of course their treats on occasion but I was just wondering if anyone else has had this issue?

My male chin loves the blanket caves too! He just goes exploring and it's fun to watch the blankets move around while he's playing. My females don't care too much for it tho.  ::silly::
