Health / Re: New Owner/ Chinchillas stopped eating
« on: April 27, 2009, 04:23:06 AM »
The eating issue you are having is one I will leave up to the ones here on the forum that know more about it . I thankfully have not had that issue . Mine seem to want to eat anything I put in there.

Bedding . I use pine . They chew on it and and all that but I have not had any issues with it . Some people prefer aspen bedding . Most pet stores carry it . I started off with cob bedding. Chuppers didnt chew it and was more interested in rolling in it as if it were a dust bath but its not soft and well I just wanted something softer for my chinnie. I dont know anyone elses feeling about cob bedding. I am not sure if its good or bad for them either . I stopped using it years ago though.

are her teeth yellow or orangish? A chins teeth are supposed to be orangish. They are quite strong. You might have just heard the wood being gnawed on . You have to watch the little buggers they will chew on anything and everything. Chuppers loves dry wall. I learned the hard way . Thankfully I caught it before it was too bad. She also enjoys the door frames .

General Chat / Re: Moving chins around/ smoking around chins
« on: April 24, 2009, 09:40:09 PM »
I am a smoker but I do not smoke in the same room as the chins . They are in the bedroom now and I do not smoke in there . When I had them out here in the living room I went outside to smoke . I have all kinds of air filters and purifiers in my house as well . I wish i could quit . Its harder than I thought it would be.

Q & A / Re: a little worried

More than likely your chin is asleep while youre at school . You could always leave the tv on . Thats what I do .

Like I said I dont understand things writen in the legal way lol . It just sounded like to me that they were trying to ban people from owning non native pets . I am not sure if this is the whole bills text or not . Then they also always add things onto Bills when they take them in to be passed. It just worries me when I see things like this. How far will it go?

The chewer is chuppers . She doesnt eat the plastic i find the little shavings in the litter and the cage was moved back into the bedroom last night . It was only in the living room because we put them side by side now they are no where near the window. I dont like the plastic hut . It was in with MeeKeeMoo when we got him He isnt a chewer. I didnt want to take it out because we wanted him comfortable . I plan on moving them back into The chuppers cage when I do its getting a new house, a wooden one  :::grins:: . Thank you for advice though since they seem to like to sleep in a bowl I might put a ceramic mixing bowl about the same size in there lol .

I am not entirely sure of the particulars . I find such things a bit hard to understand when written like this but from what I get they want to pass a bill banning all NON native animals from being kept here . This would include . Chinchillas , Hamsters, Gerbils , Some birds , Fish and reptiles.

http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=h111-669

There is a text of it . I don't know about you but this is outrageous in my opinion.

If you got to wallmart they have a 4 in 1 vac for about 20 dollars . I love it . You can take the handle and the floor vac think off in about 10 seconds and there you have a hand vac . Then put the handle and floor vac back on and you have something to suck any stray poos off your carpet . I use it almost every day. Its so handy and light . There is no need to drag the dyson out lol.

I have a little hand vac that I use to just suck it up with ... They just bounce all over me when im sucking the poo up lol.

Well I finally got a hold of a cam but the cage was dirty because today is cage cleaning day . So I had to take the picture before I could get the cage good and clean. You can see the pink house they turned over . They like it that way . After they get it turned over they will sleep in their "bowl" together LOL. All that hay in there is from today. You can thank Chuppers for the mess. SOOOOO here they are the happy couple . Chuppers and MeeKeeMoo.

MeeKeeMoo is the one on top LOL. His fur still looks rough . It was worse when we got him . Then the surgery and the hand feeding and not to mention the fur flying during initial intros . I still think he is quite the handsome man.  ;)

I do not like this cage but it was the one that MeeKeeMoo came with and since I had the better chance of them getting along by putting her in his cage there they are in the cage I dont like. I am going to fix this though. After about 3 more weeks I am going to move them both into Chuppers cage . By then hopefully they will be bonded really well and she will have forgetten about her cage.

Q & A / Re: Scented dust bath...?...

I dont use it . I remember when I first got Chupers I read somewhere in this forum that it wasn't good . I can not remember why but that always stuck with me . I think it was Joann that had mentioned it and now I cant seem to find that post . Goodness it was nearly 3 years ago now.

Yes that is a big change . The Mosiac at the pet store was little when they first got it and was darker and over the months I noticed it had begun to change color . The pet store people asked me why the chinchilla was changing color . I just smiled and said "it's a mosaic". Now one getting darker I have not had the chance to witness yet.
