Thank u both for your concern i have food and hay outside the hole and a ramp for her to come up if i dont get her tonight tomorrow i will call animal control and have them help me she peaked out last night but i moved to put something over the hole and she ran back in and started barking shes very scared and im worried for her hopefully tonight,

Another thing to consider is put food or water down there to lure her out. Not sure how well that would work. Extremely stressed chins often stop eating. If you can chase her from one side to run towards an open side you may have some success.

If a chinchilla can get its head through, which, to me, seems likely, it can extrude the rest of its squishy self through the hole. I think it has escaped. Were any exterior doors to the house left open? If so finding your pet will be highly unlikely. If your dog is not good around animals it may have eaten it. My neighbor had this happen to his. I'm not intentionally trying to upset you but I don't want your hopes to be unreasonable.
If it were my chin I would get some help and do a systematic search closing each door to each room after it has been searched. Also turn off all fans or things that make noise and listen carefully for any noises.

I found her i live in a mobile home we have floor vents that heat goes thru the bottom of the house and shes in there, its very hard to get into these vents tho.

I'm sorry you're going through such rough times. What kind of cage do you have? Does it have any flexible plastic parts? Are you sure the animal isn't hiding somewhere in the cage?
If the cage is totally solid and you have verified the latches are secure think carefully about who had access to your pet or had motive to remove it from the cage and call the police.

Here are pictures of her cage, with the bottom tray and the gap she is a 3 year old chinchilla full grown i got her from my uncle hes a breeder i am absolutely devastated at what's happening, and honestly the cops won't do anything i live in los angeles the cops don't care about stuff like this here, i was being harassed online and threatened a few years back and they didn't care to do anything when my life was in danger in my opinion :/

I'm so upset everyone, yesterday i cleaned my room and moved stuff around i than moved my chin chins cage too a new spot where ive been wanting it, my dog is friendly but she was looking at the chinchilla just intrested in what it is my friend was having troubles with his car at 10 at night i went too go help him i came back and didnt hear anything from my chinchilla i got back at around 11:30 and checked the cage around 12 AM she wasen't in there i than began tearing apart my room i can't find her anywhere in here i don't see how she could have escaped the cage its left perfectly intact locked and everything nothing looks moved around, i'll be honest i think that someone stole her from me i have a sliding glass door and i dont always lock it, i had my bedroom door shut and i remember shutting the sliding glass door but dont know if it was shut all the way but i'm pretty sure it was i really miss her and want her back i'm so worried i dont know what to do.

I recommend at the least to use those as a reference. These are safe cages for chinchillas. Foot fractures are a known problem with chins. Their long back feet can snap like toothpicks if they get between the bars when they are romping and then it's amputation time. Covering the floor with fleece may be an option for you if you cannot find a cage with an appropriate floor.

What about putting wood down?
Can you help me find an affordable cage on amazon?

Both cages are a good size. The only thing I don't like about them is the floor. A chinchilla should have a maximum of 1/2" x 1/2" floor spacing or risk of foot fractures goes way up. If you can get one that has a metal cage pan you can remove the floor and just go with cedar chips. Some cages, like the Ferrent Nation, have metal pans available that are deep for chinchillas as a third-party aftermarket option.

Those cages seem so expensive tho.

Q & A / Chinchilla not drinking water?

Hello everyone i am a first time chinchilla owner i got her from a breeder she seems to be thirsty and whenever she goes up to her water dispenser it seems like she wants to get something to drink but i don't think she knows how to properly use the dispenser it worries me it seems like shes getting some water from it but not enough i dont know i see air bubbles rise sometimes but not all the time can someone help?

Congrats on your new pet. Chinchillas take time to tame as I'm sure you know but the time is well worth the effort. They are very trainable animals too.

There's a couple of things you may want to consider. One is that you don't want plastic construction in a chinchilla cage. Plastic can be super harmful if it's ingested but even more likely is that your pet will chew a hole through it and escape through it. They chew constantly. Another thing is I think the cage is way too small even for a temporary cage.

Most cages will come with plastic shelves and ramps. These should be discarded, replaced with proper wooden shelves, and the ramps removed. Chinchillas do not use ramps and apparently they can be harmful. Wire shelves or ramps are extremely dangerous and should never be used for ANY rodents (rats, piggies, chinchillas, etc). You'll probably need to make your own shelves but it's not that hard if you have some basic tools and purchase some hardware. Your uncle may be able to help you with that. Shelves are a chinchilla necessity and keeps them off the wire floor. I feel that wire flooring is the best cage configuration for chinchillas but it must be a maximum of 1/2" x 1/2" spacing. Opinions may differ.

You are better off with something more like this one:

This cage should work well as long as your chinchilla is fully grown. If it is less than 350g the 1" bar spacing may be dangerously wide. An all-metal cage design is highly recommended but may more expensive. I strongly recommend having a look at www.tjschinchillasupplies.com as well.

Thank's for all the helpful info i plan on building a 3 story cage for her within the week so that she can run around safely the only room i have to put her in currently that she can run around and be free is the bathroom but i dont want to leave her in there and i feel like it stresses her out if im moving her cage around all the time.

Hello everyone new to the forums and new to the chinchilla world i already own her and shes in this cage its not super big and i plan on building her one im good with wood work and have been reading lots of stuff on DIY cages.

Guestbook / Hello! New to the chinchilla world

Hello everyone, i am 20 years old and just got my first chinchilla and i am in love with her she was adopted and rescued by me i got her for free my uncle is a breeder and gave me one shes very sweet at first she was very skiddish but i put my hand in her cage and just let her come to me and now shes comftrable with me and lets me scratch under her neck and behind her ears she wont let me hold her yet but i can tell she is warming up.
I dont really know what to post here i mainly joined this forum for cage questions and learning more about chinchilla's i plan on adopting another when i get a bigger cage so they aren't so confined shes in a guinea pig starter kit right now
