Title: flying saucer - chins not using it
Post by: lavt on December 06, 2013, 02:52:06 PM
I just recently got a plastic flying saucer for my 3 tier chinchilla cage. My chinchillas r use 2 the regular wheel that mounts on cage, so right now they r confused on how 2 use the flying saucer. should I secure flying saucer 2 bottom of cage or will they use it the way it is?

::silly:: When I got my my chinchillas a flying saucer they never used it. I was so angry  :flames: because I wasted my money, but don't worry I'm sure they will learn how to use it. My chinchilla never learned though  :::(((

You might be surprised. At night when your chinchilla is most active he might be using it. Both my chins will only use their wheel late at night. The reason I got it was because they jumping around in the cage and making a lot of noise. The wheels helped immensely.

The plastic one is a waste of money. I would return it and stick to the regular wheels you have as long as they are 14 inch diameter or larger.

I didn't catch the fact it was made of plastic. (Should have read more thoroughly, sorry). Your chins probably won't use it. I've played with one. It was just way too small and flimsy and you should never have plastic items in your pet's cage. Get a full sized one or a big 15" wheel with a metal running surface and I suspect your pets will take to it.

Don't worry! I'm convinced, that all chinchillas learn, how to use their toys, just take them time. :)
But later, they decide, will they play here, or not.
Not all my chins are really into running wheels. Majority of them like it, but I have a group of young males(of course, they are not staying together, they are separated :::grins::), that are not fond of it.
So, plastic one wasn't a good idea, sorry. But, in spite of everything, they should just try it! Chins are very inquisitive.
Your position - "keep calm and be patient". :)    Take your chins time.
