Title: normal about for one chinchilla to eat
Post by: Hoppinchins on September 20, 2010, 10:16:20 AM
So, till pogo got hurt i had him and snowie in the same cage. For the time being its just snowie in that cage and he is eatting alot. I'm having to put the same amount of food in the cage as if they were both in there. I know they are suppose to eat mainly hay but it seems like he's eating alot. Maybe he is just stressed bc his buddie isn't in the cage. Snowie is also alot bigger then pogo is and they are the same age. What if he eats most the food and thats why pogo is smaller? There hay is in a square bird feeder thing.

Chinchilla size comes from genetics. Also, every chinchilla's appetite is different.  In my herd room I have chinchillas that need to be fed everyday and others that eat more slowly and only need feed every other day.  Eating a lot is nothing to worry about.

Guess I'm just wondering if Pogo is gaining weight now that he doesn't share his feeder anymore......that would tell the tale for me. Of course I am probably wrong, again, lol.

The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know ::think::
