Title: The CHINformation Organization
Post by: ChinchillAZ on October 17, 2006, 09:49:52 AM
I'm always looking for suggestions on how I can improve The CHINformation Organization (http://www.chinformation.org).  Any opinions on how I can make the site as wonderful as possible?

The site has a lot of information and the color scheme looks good. The one big thing I noticed is that the front page looks empty. You could try to put some introduction on the front page or some pictures of chinchillas. You could also try arranging the menu so that they take two columns instead of three. There's a lot of neat stuff on the site such as the railroad and veterinarian listing.

::silly::I love your site.  It is well organized and very informative.  It touches on most of the basic information needed.  It gives links to some very needed information (IE. Chinchilla Railroad, Chinchilla Rescues, chin stores for supplies) and has fun stuff as well.  I went over much of it, reading most of it.
The temperature of 75 as a max is acceptable, but, I use 70 due to the fact most people's thermostats are off a little and/or they have a tendency to add a few degrees thinking it will not harm the chin.  Thermostats tend to go 2 to 5 degrees above what it is set at, before it cuts on/off to cool down.
The index page, at first glance does appear to be a bit bare, but with reason ... it remains a "window" to the rest of the information on your site, which I think is kinda neat.
Your pictures are beautiful, but, need a little work on the trueness of the color.  This can be corrected with a good photo program and lots of practice.  Some of your ebonies look like dark tans.
If the only thing I can find wrong with your site is the trueness of the color (I was a professional photographer for 16 1/2 years), you have a great site that I would recommend everyone should visit.

The front page does look rather empty.  I may work on that when I have some time.  As for the menu being three columns...  I like it that way.  Hehe!   :::grins::

Actually, I use a good photo program.  I use Adobe Photoshop.  I do not, however, alter the colors in any way.  I take the picture and, as we all know, it is affected by the colors around the animal and the lighting.  I then upload the picture and crop it.  I do not adjust the brightness, contrast, or color.  The color each person sees will also be slightly different based on the color and brightness settings on their monitors, which I can't control.  On my monitor, the ebonies look like ebonies.  I can't really do anything to make them look different unless I specifically work to get them to look like ebonies on someone else's monitor, which I can't do without having access to their monitors.  Sorry.   :::(((

::silly:: Oh, OK ... must be my monitor ... sorry about that.   :blush2:  I thought it might have been the photo program and/or the lighting used when taking the photos ... ebony is a very hard one to get right ... didn't think about my monitor possibly being off.   ::)  Sorry!

Oh!  No!  Please don't be sorry.  I'm just letting you know that it can be really difficult for all three reasons (photo adjustment, lighting, and monitor settings) so I'm not sure I can do anything about it.  Granted, I really need to get a photo setup where I can have better lighting, but this isn't likely to happen now.  I live in a one bedroom apartment at the moment and just don't have the space I used to.   :::(((

I really like your site, there is a lot of good information.  :) I found it really easy to navigate as well.

You can't have them.   ;)

Are you looking for a Black Velvet?  One of Avra's boys is looking for a forever home...   ::kiss99::

What a cutie! I wish I could, but right now my chinnies are staying with my friend since I moved back home to work on financial stuff.  :'( I am hoping to be back on my feet within 6 months. :) I love black velvets!

I know it will. I just got a little off track. I know they are in excellent hands. It's so good to have a back up plan, because you just never know what can happen. I miss my chinnies alot. Hopefully I will be able to go visit them soon.

I'm sure they miss you too!  But they probably know Mom is working to get everyone back together as soon as possible.   ::nod::
