Q & A / Cage bar chewing
« on: January 27, 2010, 02:06:45 AM »
Okay, my 2 boys are driving me crazy! As soon as my lights go out at night, they start up with chewing on the cage bars! Along with "digging" into the wooden floor I made them to rest ontop of the wire mesh on the iside of their cage. Nibbles continually "digs" in the corner and chews on the cage bars everywhere like he's trying to get out. Makes me feel like a bad chinnie mom.  :( Also moves around all the "furniture" in his cage. Both are getting along really well, and have playtime out of their cage everynight for an hour. Is this normal? I got wood hanging from a bar in there, lava bites, wood pieces, and their shelves and hut made of wood to chew on.  Whats up? They bored? Should I get a wheel? Any ideas? Please help..

Jamie,
Yes Im a member of the chin club! Do I get special info if I am? (if so, yaaa!) Im not a breeer nor am I looking to become one. I just want to spoil the 2 ones I have.  My goal is to have a cage larger than my own bed!  They already have a playroom free of wires and wood trim for them to run around in...just want to make the time they are in their cage more fun and enjoyable....

The happiest holiday is when you include family and chinchillas, especially with FOOD!  Haha
Reminds me of when we were at Grandma's house.
She always baked cookies, oatmeal-raisin & peanut butter bars.
We would bring pets, presents, and Grandpa.
After it (the death of   so sad   ...the new baby goldfish) ate and the thought was about contentness, chinchillas, Disneyland, and memories.
The goat named ChiChi Lou was eating toy tools at home with because THE

Chinclub, where'd you find that photo of the "ultimate cage"? Been looking @ websites as well..haven't found anything tall enough- but that one would "do it". Is it a custom build? For sale? Or just the result picture from schematics on a build your own? Please advise.....respond.... Thanks!!!!

Q & A / Re: Ears folded down?
« on: January 22, 2010, 12:13:01 AM »
 Dear Jo Ann,
In response to your questions... (Thx 4 asking..)
They don't have a hut (PVC pipe), sleep close to eachother sometimes ontop eachother (cute!), and are very active especially from 8pm-5am: raising mayhem by rearranging "furniture", drinking water, pushing the hay cubes around, etc... (they get "playtime" out of their cage every night except sundays at about 7pm-8pm for an hour), one is 6 months old and the other is 7 months old (raised together), air vent not too close but a window is across the room and sometimes I leave it open a little bit, but no direct breeze on them. I place my thermometer next to table lamp about 3 ft from their cage so I can tell what the warmest temp. is in the room.
Does this info help Jo Ann?  Please respond with any comments and/suggestions or further questions. I love them both so much already (only adopted 3 weeks ago)..and want to give them the best and HEALTHIEST life I can- thats why I'm here @ this forum board. Thank You everyone for your input! ::thumbsup::

Q & A / Ears folded down?
« on: January 19, 2010, 11:36:44 AM »
Had my 2 male chins together since birth from the breeder.  Sometimes their ears are folded down, almost like they are cold or scared.  Usually they both have them down @ the same time. I have a  digital thermometer/humidity display next to their cage. Usually it runs @ 66* farenheit with humidity level around 60%. I know that by adding humid. and temp to keep it lower than 150. But could it be that they are just cold? Knowing their ears are how they control their temp, could this be whats happening?  No customary squeaks or vocalizations when I reach into the cage to hold them when they are like this. Any ideas? -  New Chin Mom  ::think::
