Post by: Tuin on April 19, 2016, 07:42:09 AM
Hello,

I have a lot of willow branches in my garden. I give them to my rabbits.
Can i give them to my chin to or do i have to treat the branches with something first?

Willow is safe for chinchillas. Don't treat them with anything. You'll be fine.

In addition to being a chin mom I do gardening part time.  One of the things I do is trim my neighbor's apple trees for them.  I know they don't spray the trees with any kind of pesticide or fungicide.  I save the branches I trim & give them to the chins in 3 or 4 inch pieces.  They love to eat the bark!  They'll even fight over the pieces.  It has become a bedtime ritual. I give them before I go to sleep and it keeps them from trying to get my attention  (by shaking the cage bars) so I can actually fall asleep, as they are in my bedroom.  I also put a little partition up so they can't see me, or they'd never let me rest.

The branches should be scrubbed and baked before giving them to your chin
