General Chat / Not sleeping together
« on: September 27, 2014, 05:58:49 AM »
Hi everyone, I recently adopted a  male and female chin from a very bad situation and horrible conditions. They are in good health. (yes they are male and female ) They are about a year and a half old and have been together for about a year. They have never produced any offspring ( the male is not neutered ) I have recently put them in a new cage and they have now stopped sleeping together, in fact, they have been sleeping at opposite ends of the cage. They do not fight and I do not see any missing fur nor is there any fur lying in the cage. They do take food from my hand however, they are a little shy but that is understandable and I know it may take some time for them to warm up to me. My questions are:

1) why haven't they produced any off spring
2) why aren't they sleeping together, did I do something wrong

Q & A / Re: should I get another chin
« on: September 11, 2014, 05:56:41 AM »
I forgot to mention in my post, that my chin gets lots and lots of time out of her cage.I want another chin for 2 reasons
1) Because I feel bad for her when she is in that big cage all by herself. ( she is in a critter nation double stack model 162 )
2) I would like to have a second chin but I am worried about the concerns that I wrote in my first post above

Q & A / should I get another chin
« on: September 10, 2014, 10:41:25 PM »
Hi everyone. I have a 4 month old female black velvet chin. I am considering getting her a playmate. ( a second female chin )
My questions are, if I do get a second female chin, will they be more likely to bond with each other than with me, thus making them less people friendly and more dependent on each other ?
or, should I get a male chin for my female ?

I am very greatfull for any advice thank you  ;)

General Chat / Yet another bonding question
« on: August 31, 2014, 08:24:29 PM »
Hi everyone. I am a new chin owner and about 3 weeks ago, I bought a 3 month old female black velvet chin. She takes food from my hand and she lets me pet and scratch her but she refuses to let me hold her also, when it is time to put her back in her cage from playtime , she is impossible to catch. I don't want to chase her and make her affraid of me. am I expecting too much too fast ? Any advice will be greatly appreciated  ;)

General Chat / Play Time
« on: August 31, 2014, 08:17:03 PM »
Hello everyone. about 3 weeks ago, I bought a 3 month old female black velvet chin. My question is, how long should I let my chin run round outside of her cage ? I let her run around out  of her cage for at least an hour and a half each night, when i go to put her back in her cage (which is very difficult to do by the way) she stays by the cage door begging to come out and play. Am I giving her enough time out of her cage ? Thanks for your advice  ;)

Q & A / Can my chinchilla have a piece of matzos (matzah) cracker
« on: August 24, 2014, 07:31:20 PM »
Hi everyone, I am new to this forum and a first time chinchilla owner. I have a 3 month black velvet female. My question is can my chinchilla have a piece of matzos (matzah) cracker ? The ingredients in the cracker are as follows; wheat, flour and water. There is no salt, sugar or anything elese in the cracker. She seems to be very picky with her treats but she loves these crackers.
