Cages / How do I stop one of my chin pulling the fleeces.
« on: October 24, 2016, 03:58:09 AM »
Hi, one of my chins who has got a rather naughtier disposition than the other one, always scratch and pull at the fleece on the bottom of the cage when he wants to come out. He does not chew them or damages it, he just pulls them when it's time or nearly time for cage clean/play time. The other does not do it often and will stop if told no. I have tried blowing on him, telling him no, pointing at him and even ignoring him and he then will stops for a minute, look at me with surprise like "what!!?? what's your problem?" but then carries on till we open the cage.

What else could I do to stop him as it really annoys me.

General Chat / Anyone feel disgusted by this video.
« on: June 29, 2016, 03:34:10 AM »
It's apparently from a chin show breeder. I thought surely there is a more gentle way to prepare a chin for top condition.
If that is the norm then I feel disgusted with show practices...

Q & A / safe gap for chinchillas in a child barrier
« on: June 08, 2016, 01:58:39 PM »
Hi everyone, I bought an adjustable child barrier/room divider/play pen thing to separate the living room so chinchilla can't go where there's all the furniture and electric cables and such and by closing the right doors, will lead them to the bathroom where they can play.

However, between each side of the gate and the panels there is gaps varying in width between 4.5 to 6cm (1.7 to 2.36 inch), would a chinchilla manage to squeeze through that? if yes I can make some wood panels to cover the gaps.

Q & A / pellet food in uk
« on: May 25, 2016, 08:49:21 AM »
Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and have yet to acquire a chinchilla although I already have a critter nation cage and I'm slowly building and preparing for getting a chin.

Although I need some opinion and advice on choosing the bests pellet foods and after some looking around to what's available in my local area and research I am stuck between 3:

- http://shop.burgesspetcare.com/chinchilla/food/Excel-Adult-Chinchilla-Nuggets-with-Mint/20
- https://www.thehayexperts.co.uk/meadow-menu-chinchillas-degu.html

Personnaly, I have never used any science selective before but have always trusted burgess and rosewood naturals for dwarf hamsters. I also like the fact that burgess is the highest fibre with 30% and naturals is 20% and contain no grains, only various grasses, herbs, flowers and roots.
