That is the scared smell I was trying to explain in another post.  Only one of my rescued chins does this.

Sorry for your new, we had a baby we had to put down after 3 days because she had no anal opening.  So hard, but for all the best thing to do for no suffering.  Our thoughts are with you and momma!

Not sure if it is the same "smell" but one of my chinchillas does this "defensive peeing" (thats what I call it) when I am trying to get her out of her cage.  I think they do it if they are nervous and she is a rescue chin so I don't know the back ground, but when I get her out she settles down.  They can also stand up and spray you if they are really nervous of you.  Hope this helps.  Don't know about the pooping issue unless you have given treats, which I would watch if poop is soft, or you have changed their food.

I have had this same trouble with a superpet water bottle, I also assumed it would work as I have 4 others of them.  The next day I realized the water level was not down, with three in the cage I have to fill every other day, my pink white must have drank for 10 minutes it seemed and that was only going without for like one day.  Poor baby after so long!!  Well keep our fingers crossed here as well.

Breeding 101 / Re: Question about separating baby from Mom

Concerning the 3 brothers, if there is no female to go into heat around them, they could live happily together.  There are always a chance for fighting though and others may have more advise for you.

Congrats, time and patience is your best bet, give them space so they aren't scared but don't just leave them alone either.  They need to trust you, try putting oats in your hand and let them eat off your hand.  Some just do not like to leave the safety of their cage and some may never like to just be held.  Good luck and yes you should find many helpful things on this site.

My chins can be fussy over hay as well, mine prefer the Zupreem western timothy over the other brands I have bought.  Don't know if this is available to you or not. It is more the tender parts instead of the more straw parts

Q & A / Re: In the same room together?...& tv questions
« on: October 29, 2010, 05:22:13 AM »
I don't know about the tv but I keep a radio playing for my chins.  I think it helps them not be scared of noises.  If your males are not in the same cage with a female around you should have nothing to be worried about keeping them in the same room.

If they are housed together you don't have the say over whether they will breed or not.  Any male/female pair may breed.  They may not but it is the chance you take when they are together.  Good luck with the current chins.

Reading your other posts if you are unsure of background and you think there is something wrong with the males eye I would not suggest breeding these chins.  You may inadvertantly be breeding something the babies could inherit.  Not trying to sound bad but it is so hard loosing a kit, are you prepared for problems and/or one dying.  If you still decide to breed good luck.

Yes Congrats, how about a picture.  They are just too cute when they are little buggers.  Good luck this time.
