Health / Re: Broken Tail (help)
« on: April 25, 2012, 03:40:04 PM »
Thanks for the advice.

Gallardo Puffs vet gave him some pain medication and wrapped his tail at the base. She said it probably is broken but since his tail is still warm and not swollen, he has blood flow to it so there is no fear in the tail dying. I don't think it will have to be amputated. (I hope!) The vet reccommended that I give him pedialyte and beneobac to help with his diet. So far he's absolutely loving the pedialyte. Gallardo Puff takes his pain medication from a syringe and I don't have to hold him or even take him out of his cage, he loves eating/drinking from a syringe.

I think things are looking up for him.  ;)

Health / Broken Tail (help)
« on: April 23, 2012, 10:29:01 AM »
Last Friday, my chin Gallardo Puff broke his tail (from what I believe). His tail no longer curls up but hangs below his body.
Gallardo Puff managed to squeeze his little body up into a wall at a new apartment that I recently moved into with my boyfriend. We had no idea where the hole in the wall lead to, so my boyfriend grabbed his tail to stop him from going anywhere.
It was a scary moment, because this being a new place, we did not know if they could be rat poisen laying around in the walls anywhere and we did not want to loose Gallardo Puff.
After we got Gallardo Puff out of the wall, his tail had some red spots on it and lost a lot of fur. His tail was grabbed at the base of it. We took him to the emergency vet that evening, and the doctor there did not know anything about chinchillas. The vet i normally take Gallardo Puff too was out of town until today. She gave us an antibiotic to give Gallardo Puff, but that confused me because there wasn't an open wound on his tail.

Today, Gallardo Puff is going to see the vet he always sees to get his tail wrapped.
He doesn't really eat his pellets but does eat treats and hay. His attitude had change; he's not happy and excited anymore like he used to be.

Does anyone have experience with a broken tail? I just want to know if anything can really be done for him and his tail.   :'(

Q & A / Koolaid & Jello to add flavor?
« on: February 20, 2012, 08:37:54 PM »
I have heard about soaking plain wood chews for chins in koolaid and jello can make them more enjoyable for them. Can anyone vouch for this?

I would think the koolaid or jello would be harmful to them. ?

Q & A / Re: Early Bird Chinchilla
« on: February 19, 2012, 03:20:18 PM »
My Gallardo Puff is almost the exact same way!
He is up and begging to come out of his cage every morning around 8:30am. I have noticed that he seems to be happier when I let him out of his cage is the morning than at night time. He will run around more and play more.

I have found that letting him out in the morning has allowed him a better sleeping schedule for the day time. Once he goes back into his cage, his is out until roughly 7:00 or 8:00 that evening when he gets up to eat.

Q & A / Re: My chinchilla gives a little leap to the side sometimes...
« on: February 19, 2012, 03:11:05 PM »

My chin, Gallardo Puff, does this thing called "popcorning" when he's really happy. He will be running and then randomly jump up in the air and dart off. It's almost like a spaz.

Could yours be possibly doing that?

Q & A / Re: Digging food out of food dish.
« on: December 16, 2011, 11:38:27 AM »
My Gallardo Puff used to do that too. What I did was I moved his food dish to a different spot in his cage and he stopped digging all of the pellets out of his dish.

Q & A / Fleece Bedding
« on: October 09, 2010, 12:51:27 PM »
I have always wondered this; is it alright to use a fleece blanket or fleece mat for bedding?
My friend uses a 100% fleece blanket for her gunie pig bedding and it works quite well! And she has been saving loads of money just reusing it.

Is this chinchilla safe, does anyone know? I was attenmpting to just try it will Gallardo by just a fleece padded ledge for him to strech out on and so far he likes that.

Q & A / Re: colorful wood knot toy

I got Gallardo one of those and he demolished it, but then just left the walnuts alone. He didn't like them in his cage.

Q & A / Re: Home.

My chin, Gallardo, sleeps up against his bars sometimes too. Other than that, he's all over the place! He'll sleep laying on one of his ramps, on his wood perch, inside his wood box, inside his hay box  ::shrug:: , and even on his flying saucer!

I really like the blue and white plaid print you have.
Could I inquire on how much you charge for shipping?

Q & A / Fleece Pillows
« on: September 12, 2010, 04:26:12 PM »
I was considering making a fleece pillow for my chin since I have seen that other owners have chinchillas that seem to just love them.
Any ideas on how to go about doing this? Any advice on what I should be careful about?

Does anyone know any good sites for fleece pillows?

My Gallardo likes to have one ear up and one ear down all the time. It's adorable!
