Health / a bad injury

Snickerdoodle was running around his cage as usual last night and fell on his face. He is CLEARLY in pain or at least is uncomfortable. He sneezes over and over again, and there was a bit of blood (dried now- when he wiped his nose, I saw dried blood on his hand). He's eating and drinking, and poop is normal. He just seems a bit down and keeps pawing at his nose. Please advise.

What is a safe amount of yogurt to treat? Also, should fat- free or low- fat be used? And finally, will Chobani Greek Yogurt harm my chinchilla? The plain flavor, I mean.

I was curious if those handprint- preserving kits made for babies are safe to use with chinchillas. Also, I'd like to save some of the fur Doodle sheds naturally as a keepsake almost, but I'm worried that this is gross or weird. Any thoughts?

Health / Fleck of dirt in ear

Doodle had a piece of white dirt in his ear. It looked like a flake of skin, so I decided to keep an eye on it. Five minutes later, it was gone. Did I do the right thing by not getting a q- tip and cleaning it out? Thanks!

If a kit is exposed to an unrelated, non- lactating adult female, will the kit think that the chin is its mom and try to nurse? And what about if a chinchilla is exposed to two lactating mother chins? Will the kit prefer its own mother or will it be happy nursing from the other mother? Just curious

General Breeder Chat / question about breeding

What does it mean to "cull" the herd? Also, when should a chinchilla first be bred (at what age?) Can males be allowed to mate when they're very young? If I introduced a female to my male chinchilla (not going to happen- he's a pet store animal, should not be bred, but hypothetically) that has lives alone for 1.5 years, would they fight? Or mate? Finally, how is it possible for a female to get pregnant immediately after giving birth? I know it's true, but it doesn't seem to comply to the laws of nature

Health / Itchy chinchilla gums?

Weird question: twice yesterday I saw Doodle open his mouth and use his hind leg to scratch at his mouth. EVERYTHING else is normal. He is eating and pooping normally, and he doesn't have slobbers. He often does random strange things that fade after a few weeks, so I don't think it can be malo because the "symptoms" always disappear. Why does he do this?

Doodle was definitely crying the other day. Once it was because I put him in the carrier to clean the cage, and the other time was because I was holding something that he wanted. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

On July 18th, Snickerdoodle will turn 2! I can't believe it! But I want to give him a party. Is there any way I can make him feel super special for his birthday?
