Just the hands seem quite similar, minus the thumbs.  I was thinking about this last night

I’m not sure why I have been thinking about this, but I’m starting to think that chinchillas are somehow linked to the human evolution ring.  I've been thinking a lot about their little hands and how similar those are to human hands.  Has anyone else ever thought about this?

What did you use for the branches, I've always wanted to put a branch in our cage, I think they would love sitting on them!

Q & A / Re: Is the chinchilla right for me?
« on: May 11, 2010, 04:35:49 PM »
Well first off, chinchillas live for about 15 years, and they need a larger cage probably about a 30x24x30 is about right.  Your also going to need a wheel, and they are nocturnal.  Honestly, I think you need a buddy for them because they seem to love having the company.

As far as living in a dorm, if your dorm room was anything like mine in college your probably not going to have enough room for them and might want to consider waiting for about 2 years till you are living in a larger place.  Your going to have to check with your dorm handbook or housing administrative to see if caged animals are allowed.

Still I would bet that you should wait about two years.  I think chinchillas are the most interrogate animals out there.  They have little hands and are able to pick things up.  They are little people, it's just so interesting.

Hopefully this helps

Health / Re: Vibrating
« on: May 11, 2010, 11:31:04 AM »
I've been noticing more and more that it is some type of communication.  He seems to vibrate at different frequencies and different durations.  I have a digital recorder than can pick up 40,000hz.  I’m wondering if there has been any experimentation with chinchillas and these types of communication levels.  I guess he is a black velvet carrier, as his mother was a black velvet. This is just rather interesting and the scientist in me wants to determine what this really is.

I guess an experiment has been done to determine their frequency range of 90-22,800 hz.  Maybe this would be an interesting experiment.

I disagree, nothing changes except you can rent a car without paying exorbitant rates.  It pretty much doesn't change till you are 65 and can get senior discounts  ::tickedoff::

Petfinder actually has some pretty good adoptions up.  Search for small and furry, in the first drop down.  Type in chinchilla in the breed, then type in your zip.  Should link you to the adoptions nearest you!  :::grins::
