Q & A / Kit question......
« on: June 26, 2010, 10:16:52 AM »
So.... I was aware that my female was pregnant and as I was cleaning the cage I found 2 young kits. I just thought my female happened to be eating all the food.  So- she's got 2 kits now and I have read that giving them Goats milk is probably good for them to suplement her milk... Im jsut making sure that it is ok to give them this certain kind... It's a white package and its powder that you mix with warm water its called Goats Milk Esbilac.... its got instructions on it for hamsters gerbils guinea pigs and bunnies but not chinc. Does anyone know? Thanks!

I have a pregnant chin ( kiwi) she has already delivered one chinchilla this morning.... Everythign I've read said if there are multiple kits it could be like 45 minute intervals.... Well she kept us up all night chewing on the cage so whe nwe woke up at 9:50 am there was already one lil kit who was still very wet- the squeaking woke me up.... She didnt eliver an after birth until about 2 hours after the fact..... How can I tell if there are more kits- she was rather large so it seemed as if she would have at least 2..... she keeps looking between her legs but im not sure if she is just cleaning up blood or what..... thsi was her first litter.

There is no mucous or anything it is regular but just bigger.
I have been adding another type of food in with what I've always given them only because as I've been researching their food has too many "treats" in it so I have mixed it in with a timothy based pellet. But I did that about 10 days ago and the poop is just now bigger

Health / pregnant question....
« on: November 15, 2009, 10:24:47 PM »
I have 2 Chinchillas, one male and one female they're about 2 yrs now.... I semi-rescued/adopted them so im not too sure....
My female ( Kiwi) is pregnant and should have her litter around Jan 6th....
First of all how accurate is the 111 days count?
second- one of their poop- Im guessing hers- has gotten bigger.... is that normal?
third- about how many kits is normal for a first litter?
