Just wondering what other people named their Chinchillas. I am wanting to name mine when i get them Stewie and Bryan. I don't know if you've seen the show Family Guy but that is where i got the names.

Cages / Cage

I went to Petco today and was looking for a Chinchilla cage i found one for $85 but it had alot of plastic in it and the box for the cage specificly said CHINCHILLA CAGE. i did not get it because i wanted to make sure it would be safe. i also found at another cage that is a great cage it was tall wide and long and itwas only $80. the only thing was it was a bird cage so the door wasn't big enough!

             Does anyone have any suggestions to make the door bigger without doing much damage to the cage.
                        There probably isn't a way though.

Breeding 101 / Breeding

This might be a stupid questions but how do you breed chinchillas? I was just wondering if they need any specific care to breed them. How many babies do they have? How often do they have babies? Is there a way to keep them from breeding. I was just wondering because i want to get a pair of chinchillas and if i get a male and female they will probably breed.

In the room that i want to put my chinchilla in when i get it is usually 80-85 degrees is this to hot for the chinchilla will it overheat?
What temeratures can they live in?

I have read on a Chinchilla website that Chinchilla wheels are dangerous. I read this on a website that the owners breed chins. and sell them, they said one of their chins. died and a few others got hurt while running on a Chinchilla wheel. Are they dangerous?

South West USA / Breeders

I live near the middle of California and i am looking for a Chinchilla breeder near my area because i want to either be able to drive and pick up my Chinchilla or meet the breeder half way.

Here is what i want:

I want a Chinchilla that is 2-3 months old.

I want to get a pair for at the most $150 less is better.

If there is a breeder that lives at the most 3 hours away from Bakersfield, California please respond to this post if you are wanting to sell me some Chinchillas.

I will be wanting to get my Chinchillas in December or January.

Q & A / Don't have a Chinchilla but want one

 I have been wanting another animal and have desided on a Chinchilla and if you've read my profile you will Know i am an animal lover. Before i get a Chinchilla i want to know as much about them as i can.

Here are a few questions i have:

I have a couple lizards and a snake in the same room i plan on putting my chinchillas, would this stress out the chin. or would it get used to my three reptiles? My snake is small and dosen't come out alot it's only 2' long but it wil only get 4'-5' long. My lizards are also small they only get 20'' long.  If not i'll put it in another room.

What type of foods do you reccomend?

Do they need regular baths and dust baths or just dust baths?

I plan on getting a huge cage that is about 4'-5' tall how wide and how long should the cage be?

What cage accesseries do you reccomend?

About how much are Mosaic Chin.?

I know i am missing alot of questions so if you can answer as much of these questions as possible and tell me other things i need to know.
