Title: Breeder Ratings...Do we want it?
Post by: chinclub on September 19, 2006, 07:28:56 AM
I was looking over some of the new features offered for our board.  One was a trader system.  With this installation we would be able to leave feedback on other members if we ever bought or sold items from/to them.  This could be used for breeders and customers and for people who sell chinchilla items and those buyers.

Rating would be located in your profile and other members could leave a positive, neutral, or negative comments and see how other members have rated you.

I have had  a lot of people suggest that I add something like this to the chinchilla club over the years and I have always been very hesitant.  It would be a great tool for finding respected breeders and trusted customers...but at the same time it could be a tool for trashing people and I never wanted our site to be a place for that.

I'm really on the fence about this...actually leaning more toward not adding it...but I would love to hear what you guys think.

I just found another add-on that would allow for positive feedback only.  Actually there would be no feedback at all.  You would just give a star to a breeder/buyer/seller that you enjoyed doing business with.  If you would prefer this choose the Positive only potion in the poll above.

::silly::A true rating is good and bad ... But ...
Is there a way we could give the "Star" for a good rating...
& ...
a place that we could post to the breeder/site owner only ...
suggestions and/or corrections that you think should be made on their site ...
or mode of doing business with others?
Information on chinchillas can change daily ...
we do not always find out in a timely manner ...
it is important miss-information not be on web sites any longer than necessary.
This is a polite way we could bring it to their attention ...
and avoid someone trashing another person in public.

So you are wanting a place to comment or rate websites... ::think::  That should be easy enough to do.  We could create a section of the forum much like our conformation and quality forum where instead of asking for thoughts about their chinchilla people could ask for icomments on their website.  Then members would have the choice of posting public comments on the forum or sending a pm about the post to the person.  Is that sort of what you had in mind?

Hey, Jamie ... I found that intermitten problem again ... the one that erases everything you've just spent 20 minutes typing and getting just right ... I clicked on the smile taking a hammer to the computer .... and everything I'd typed went bye-bye ... and they say the only good thing about a computer is that it can't talk back to you ... I'm beginning to wonder ... :-\

That is so weird.  I have never had that happen to me.  I wonder if its a browser thing.  What do you use (Internet Explore, Netscape, AOL, FireFox, etc..)

::silly::I will try it again.  What is an "icomment"?   ::think::  Explain, please.   :blush2:

Stars & positive comments can easily be posted and will gladly be received by all.
BUT ...
If you find a mistake on a web site ... either from a miss-type or miss-information ... the information of such, is usually best received, if received in private.

If it's a silly mistake, we can laugh at it, provided it is approached properly.

A 'type-O', could be a silly or a deadly mistake if not caught ... omitting the simple three-letter word NOT changes the meaning drastically and could cost a chin it's life.

It is extremely important that we make sure all the information is correct.
Newbies to the World of Chinchillas can be helped tremendously or can have their chin die and be devastated, caused by a simple mistake or misunderstanding in the way information is given.

If we think it is miss information, personally, I think it is best pointed out, by giving the (what we believe to be) the correct information and a reference as to where we got it.
But ... when doing so, be prepaired for a discussion with an open mind ... the other person may think their information and resources are better than yours.  If not approached carfully  :flames:  can fly.

Then there are the people that enjoy bashing others in public, especially if they do not like them ... this can easily happen, should things be approached improperly ... or when there is a personal feud going on.   We want to avoid these situations as much as possible.

Unfortunately the days of respect, truthfulness, trust, honesty and being polite are not as they use to be.

Now-a-days, most feel we must be politically correct, and as long as we are politically correct, then it is OK.   But, when you refer to a person as follicle-ly impaired, they still know you are calling them "baldy" ... it may be "correct", but it still taken the same way.

By the way, here are screen shots of what this addition would look like.

Here is what you will see in each profile:

I think its a good idea. Both the +/-. I have a good seller rating on e-bay, and that does help.

I always forget about ebay!  I have added a section to the profiles in case anyone wants to link to their ebay auctions.

Didn't see anything there, so I put one up for my site.  Did I goof?  :blush2:
I like the little pole thing ... where would that be?   In each person's profile it self?

Yep, we add a rating system it would be in each person's profile.  Then if you have ever bought or sold something to a person you could go into their profile and leave a rating as to how the transaction went.

I finally broke down and added a Breeder Review Site.  I decided to keep it separate from the forum and the two clubs nd placed in on the main chinchillas.org site instead.

Check it and let me know what you think!!

that just happened to me too, and has several times. I go to add the smiley and the whole works vanishes.
