Title: South Carolina Show
Post by: chinclub on August 13, 2007, 04:21:18 PM
I thought I might should start a new topic since the plans have been changed:

Chinchilla Breeders.Org Field Day
Sat. Oct. 20, 2007
Recreation Center
 280 Recreation Lane
Walterboro, South Carolina
Judge: Ralph Shoots

This will be an Educational 10 class show. Our judge will be Ralph Shoots. Doors will open at 8 am and judging will begin at 10 am.

We have worked out a deal with the Microtel Inn & Suites in Walterboro. They are pet friendly.  They have agreed to waive the pet fee and give us rooms for $65.00 + tax.  Please call them at 843-539-5657 to make your reservations and be sure to tell them you are with the Chinchilla Show to get the group rate.  We have a meeting room reserved for Saturday night for a social.

Vendors and chinchilla sales will be welcomed.

We will have advertising opportunities in the show book and for sponsoring a trophy. Please email  info@chinchillaclub.com for more information.
Pre-registration forms  should be out soon!

I want to but not sure yet because its so far from me in NY.
NC was ok,  but now in SC its so much farther.  Whats the address so I can mapquest it and see how long it will take to drive, then I can decide if I want to fly.

The show is at 280 Recreation Drive Waterboro, SC 29488
The hotel is 130 Cane Branch Road Waterboro, SC 29488  which is right off of I-95 exit 53

Ok thanks.  Im gathering the information and trying to talk a fellow chin breeder friend to go along with me.  She lives in NY too so I wouldnt have to go alone.

Are there still spots for preregistration left?
Title: Re: South Carolina Show
Post by: chinclub on August 23, 2007, 04:56:31 AM
We have a huge space now so there is no limit to the number of people who can pre-resgister.  We are asking everyone to send in their forms asap because I have to decide on the number of ribbons I need to order.
Title: Re: South Carolina Show
Post by: BrightEyed on August 25, 2007, 07:48:34 AM
I'm new here to the forum- my name is Megan. I'm about to send our pre-registration form but had a quick question. If we send in the forms and money and everything and for some terrible reason were unable to attend the show, what will happen?
Title: Re: South Carolina Show
Post by: chinclub on August 25, 2007, 09:39:20 AM
Unfortunately we can't give your money back because when you register your money goes to pre-purchase ribbons and things.  We will have already bought ribbons with your chinchillas counted in and those can not be returned.
Title: Re: South Carolina Show
Post by: BrightEyed on August 25, 2007, 11:44:04 AM
That's understandable. I also wanted to ask if the animals we bring will need to have the ear clamps with our info on them. We haven't shown any of our chins before so I was wondering how we needed to prepare.  :::grins::
Title: Re: South Carolina Show
Post by: chinclub on August 25, 2007, 11:53:55 AM
No, they don't need that.  We will give you a show cage and a cage card.  You will write all of your info on the card and place it on the cage you put your chinchilla in so there will be no confusion.

Post by: QTPie61282 on August 26, 2007, 03:02:28 PM
Man I really really really want to go.  I dont know about spending over 14 hours in a car to get there though.  Or $200 for a flight, then I would need to rent a car.

Are there any other shows coming up and if so where??
Title: Re: South Carolina Show
Post by: chinclub on September 02, 2007, 08:11:11 PM
Only 13 days left to pre-register for the show.  Keep in mind that we will be purchasing ribbons based on our pre-registration numbers.  If many more people show up than expected we may not have enough ribbons for everyone.  If this should occur pre-registered guests will be assured ribbons on the show day. Others may have to wait for theirs to be mailed later.

To help make pre-registration easier we have set up an online form and you can pay through PayPal.com  The online form can be found here:

Just a quick question :::grins:: Are the people who will be comming with someone showing their animals (the people observing) going to be able to be with the people who are showing as they groom,  get ready and what-not? Or are they there stricktly to observe and will be in a different area?

Just a quick question :::grins:: Are the people who will be comming with someone showing their animals (the people observing) going to be able to be with the people who are showing as they groom,  get ready and what-not? Or are they there stricktly to observe and will be in a different area?

::silly::  Good question ... usually, they can pretty much help you with the grooming, if you need them to do so ... the number of "helpers" would have to be within a reasonable number ... is that right, Jamie?

Most observers also like to mill around and look at everyone else's chins and get an idea if they might like to buy one or test their own skills at judging and see if they can pick the winner.  ;)  This has to be done with courtesy and no touching the chins or picking-up the cages, please!

Once the show starts, everyone has to be in the audience and away from the animals, except for the show animal handlers.
Jamie, do we have some volunteers for handling the animals?

Do we need any volunteers for anything?

Question, please ...  I'm going to set up a table at the show and have several things to sell as well as a few chins to raffle off ... I'm going to put up another thread ... please give me ideas for pricing some of the items, please!

Thanks!

Jo Ann  ::wave::

::silly::  Hummmm ... Jamie must still be super busy with the Virtual Chinchilla Site.    :)

Just a reminder ... she needs all the preregistrations to be in to her by the 15 of this month.

Information for ordering the food, trophies, ribbons and the number of show cages needed are a must!

We want to make sure we have enough for all the people and for all the chinchillas.

If your chin wins, I know you would love to be able to take the awards home with you, instead of haveing them sent to you later.

It is expensive to put on a show and Jamie is going out on a limb for us with her own money, please get your registrations in to her a.s.a.p.!

Thanks!

 ::wave::  Jo Ann

PS Donated door prises are greatly appreciated!

Oh I so wish I could go!
South Carolina would be about an 8 hour drive.

Where is it going to be held?

And, what are the judging increments for the chins?
Title: Re: South Carolina Show
Post by: chinclub on September 05, 2007, 06:16:58 PM
It is in our Community Recreation center.  It will be an educational 10 class show.  Each chinchilla will be judges individually by the judge's idea of a "perfect" chinchilla.  Then they will be judged against the others on the table to find the best chinchilla at the show.  Its a little more involved than that but you get the basic idea.
 ;)

Post by: chinclub on September 05, 2007, 06:20:17 PM
Oh, and we have yet to decide if we will show mutations separately or if mutations and standard will all be shown together.  It depends on the number of animals expected.  The awards will be slightly different depending on which we do but we are thinking right now that there will be Color Champion, Reserve Color Champion and Third Best of Class, Reserve Grand Show, and Grand Show Champion.

I believe we will also be giving breeder awards (all points earned by chinchillas shown are added up to get the breeders score)

I think I might go, I have until my birthday to decide.

I am not sure if I can drive so I need to ask my mom if she wants to make it a vaca. What day is it on? I might have to take a plane so I dunno if I can bring my baby Chico.

If I can't make it to this one, then, I suppose I will make it to the next!

Curious...since the cages are provided by the show people, do people bringing their chins also bring something from home that the chin is familiar with - for comfort effect?

Wish we could go, but its a looong way from the west coast.
Title: Re: South Carolina Show
Post by: Jo Ann on September 08, 2007, 09:41:27 AM
::silly:: When you travel with a chin, it is best to keep with it, the normal things it likes, but, it is not unusual for a chinchilla to cut way back on the amount of water and food it consumes when away from it's normal surroundings.

Your chin will remain in it's travel cage until the morning of the show and you start grooming it for the show.

Once the chin is groomed and placed in a show cage ... that's it ... they are not taken out of the show cage until the show is over.

There is nothing left in the show cage to distract from the appearance of the chinchilla.

The show is during the daytime ... their normal rest/sleeping time, so they do not need the food and water they need/enjoy at night ... it also cuts down on the urine and poos on the judging table.  ;-)

Healthy chinchillas can go 3 days without food or water ... but ... it is not advisable.

If a chinchilla is not healthy, it should not travel and definately not to a show or somewhere there will be other chinchillas.

They will usually eat and drink at the motel and before and after the show.

I think that covers everything.

Who else is trying to make plans to come?

Well, we would love to have help with setting up and we will certainly need help with clean-up after the show. I am sure there will be plenty of jobs we will think of on the day of the show.  As far as leading up to the show not much else to do but wait.  :)

I did want to make two announcements.....

First, the pre-registration date has been extended so anyone who missed the dead-line can still register.

ALSO...

We are getting ready to start working on show books.   Advertising in the Show Book is $9 for 1/4 page, $13 for 1/2 page, and $20 for a whole page if anyone is interested.

I am hoping there will be some good chins for sale at the show.

I am looking for a dark ebony male (& female if poss.) and het beige female (& male if poss.)

But of course when it comes to chins I'm very open to what catches my eye  ;)

What I am most excited about is learning a lot and the experience.  :::grins:: There is always a lot to learn and that is one thing that will never change.

::silly::  That was only about a 1/8 of what I took    rofl    I would have taken more if I had not had to take time to set up the vendor's table, coffee table, and get chins ready (with the help of Barbara, Iris and Linda doing lots of the grooming).  I took  183 total.
My hubby got me a 1G smart card for my camera before we went down to the show ... he's a keeper.   ;)

We had to buy one a few weeks ago b/c my old card malfunctioned- I lost the 200 pictures on there. I had already put them on my computer thank god. But then the card only would hold abour 30 pictures and they could not fix it and told us to buy a new one with more memory.

I would have taken a ton of pictures too if we weren't the handlers. It was a lot of fun working there tho.

Now is when I get to see what you saw in the stands :)
