Title: Fleas?
Post by: IkiKolohe on July 07, 2016, 09:22:30 AM
Can chinchillas get fleas?  I frontline/Revolution all our dogs and we still will see a flea or 2 in the bad season right now.  They are a real pest here because our tenperaryrAfter treating everyone last night, I suddenly thought of my baby chin which will be coming home next month!

Or does the bathing in dust pretty much kills any fleas that look their way?

A chinchilla's fur is too dense to allow fleas to penetrate and reach the skin. Sand baths are really all that a pet chinchilla will need to keep their coat in good condition.

I don't think bathing in dust is going to make a difference. I would say be careful. They can be bitten by fleas because their ears are not fully furred.

Sometimes, although rarely they can get mites in and on their ears but I've never heard of a chinchilla that actually broods fleas.

On a well furred chin, they can not get fleas on their bodies. They can get fleas on their tail, ears and eye area. You can mix diatomaceous earth in with the dust which kills most bugs.
